"3.1 The Priestley 11 (for law degree subjects) Sun Jul 24, 2005 11:17 AM The Law Admissions Consultative Committee (chaired by Justice Priestley of the NSW Supreme Court and referred to as the Priestley Committee) requires that candidates wishing to practise as a legal practitioner must complete the following subjects as part of their law degree: Criminal Law and Procedure Torts Contracts Property Equity Company law Administrative law Federal & State Constitutional law Civil Procedure Evidence Professional Conduct (including trust accounting) Please read the essential information below under Applying for Admission to ensure that you understand the requirements and that you comply with them. 3.2 The Priestley 12 (for Practical Legal Training) The Priestley Committee has also determined 12 practical subjects that a candidate wishing to practise as a legal practitioner must complete. Our Program meets and exceeds the Committee’s requirements. The Priestley 12 are: Legal Profession • legal ethics and professional responsibility • trust and office accounting Professional Skills • work and file management • legal writing and drafting • interviewing • negotiation and dispute resolution • legal analysis and research • advocacy Practice Areas • litigation including criminal procedure, civil procedure, trial preparation, remedies, specific areas such as family and industrial law and costing • property practice including conveyancing, mortgages and leases • wills and estate management including will drafting, estate planning, applications for probate and estate management • commercial and corporate practice including commercial agreements, company practice, revenue practice and finance and securities." |
