The reputation of Assas
Hello, everybody,Sun Apr 26, 2009 02:09 PM I need your help. I am student from Armenia, and I have posed my candidatures for Assas and Sorbonne. In Armenia we have a state program which funds studying in the "top" universities. I really want to study in Assas but I don't know how to prove that Assas has an international reputation. I have found Sorbonne in the ranking of top Universities(e.g. at this site). But nothing about Assas as being prestigious worldwide in the field of law. So, can anybody tell me is there any ranking where Assas is considered as a top university or any other proof? I would be very grateful to you. |

The reputation of Assas
Mon Apr 27, 2009 11:58 AM Hello, everybody, Hi As far as I know there is no official ranking of French law schools. You can be sure, however that Assas is the top law school in France. It should therefore be at the same level as Paris I Sorbonne in the rankings. In my opinion (I am certain that other people will have different views) the best law schools in the country can be ranked as follows: 1. Paris I Pantheon Sorbonne 1. Paris 2 Pantheon Assas 3. Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) 3. Paris Dauphine 3. Paris 11 - Jean Monnet - Sceaux 5. Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense 6. Aix - Marseille III 6. Montpellier 6. Lyon There is no general ranking but I know of one ranking of masters published by the consulting firm SMBG (www.smbg.fr/etudiants-recherches-formation/classem…). In 2009, it was as follows: Business Law 1 - Université Panthéon - Assas (Paris II) Magistère Juriste d'Affaires - DJCE 2 - Université Panthéon - Assas (Paris II) - Master professionnel Droit des Affaires et Fiscalité 3 - Faculté de Droit de Nancy - Master 2 professionnel Droit de l'Entreprise et des Affaires - DJCE 4 - Université Aix-Marseille III - Faculté de Droit Master professionnel Droit et Fiscalité de l'Entreprise 5 - Université Paris-Dauphine -Master 2 professionnel Droit des Affaires 6 - Université Panthéon - Assas (Paris II) - Master 2 recherche Droit des Affaires 7 - Université Paris 11 - Faculté Jean Monnet - Master 2 Juristes d'Affaires 8 - Université Panthéon - Assas (Paris II) - Master 2 Droit Bancaire et Financier 9 - Université Montpellier 1 - Master 2 Droit des Affaires et Fiscalité - DJCE 10 - Université d'Orléans - Master 2 Droit des Affaires et Fiscalité Business Law and Management 1 - ESCP-EAP / HEC - MS Droit et Management International 2 - ESSEC - MS Droit des Affaires Internationales et Management 3 - EMLYON Business School - MS Juriste Manager International 4 - Groupe ESC Toulouse - MS Juriste d'Entreprise Industrielle 5 - INSEEC - Fiscalité, Droit des Affaires et Gestion d'Entreprise 6 - Groupe ESC Toulouse - MS Management Juridique des Affaires 7 - ESG - MBA spécialisé en Management et Droit des Affaires 8 - Université François Rabelais - Tours - Master 2 Juriste d'Entreprise, spécialité Commerce et Finance 9 - Université de Rennes 1 - Magistère Droit et Gestion 10 - Université Jean Moulin - Lyon 3 - Master 2 professionnel Droit et Ingénierie Financière International Law Droit International 1 - Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) - Master 2 Droit Européen des Affaires 2 - Université de Bourgogne - Master 2 professionnel Juriste d'Affaires Internationales 3 - Université François Rabelais - Tours - Master 2 Droit des Affaires Internationales 4 - Université Montpellier 1 - Master professionnel Droit du Commerce International 5 - Université François Rabelais - Tours - Master Juriste Européen Employment Law 1 - Université Panthéon - Assas (Paris II) -Master Droit et Pratique des Relations de Travail 2 - Université Montpellier I - Master Droit de la Protection Sociale (DPS) 3 - Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense - Master 2 professionnel Droit de la Santé et de la Protection Sociale 4 - Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne - Master 2 professionnel Juristes de Droit Social 5 - Université François Rabelais - Tours - Master 2 Juriste d'Entreprise, spécialité Relations de Travail Tax Law 1 - Université Panthéon - Assas (Paris II) - Master Fiscalité Internationale 2 - Université Paris-Dauphine - Master 2 professionnel 221 de Fiscalité de l'Entreprise 3 - Université Aix-Marseille III - Magistère Droit, Fiscalité et Comptabilité 4 - Université Paris 1 - Panthéon Sorbonne - Master professionnel Gestion Financière et Fiscale 5 - Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) - Master 2 Droit Fiscal 6 - Université Paris 1 - Panthéon Sorbonne - Master recherche Droit Fiscal 7 - Groupe ESC Lille - MS Gestion Fiscale de l'Entreprise 8 - Université Paris Descartes (Paris 5) - Master 2 Juriste Fiscaliste 9 - Université Lille II - Master professionnel Droit Fiscal des Affaires 10 - Université Paris 12 - Val de Marne - Master 2 Fiscalité Appliquée I hope that you will find this post helpful... The reputation of Assas
Hey, Thu May 14, 2009 01:55 PM If you ask any french person they will all tell you that Assas is the best law school in France, and mayB even further. I was searching for some rankings on that, but was unable to find. I always get the impression that the world uni rankings are total B...S... While the Sorbonne has very high prestige abroad, in France, Sorbonne is not viewed very positively. La Sorbonne is still living on its old prestige it had 100 years ago, nothing else. That is not known very well abroad, every1 is astonished when they hear u finished the Sorbonne, while, in France it's rly not a big deal, on the contrary, it's bad. But, having in mind that you have to prove that it is one of the best law schools to your country, mayB you could give a call to the french embassy in ARM, see if they can help you, or even contact Assas and ask for help. Hope that helps |

I absolutely have to agree with the above. As a (foreign) graduate in International and European law at the Sorbonne, the prestige of the school has played a substantial role in my employment opportunities - internationally, Sorbonne is considered to rank up with Oxbridge and the American Ivy League schools. However, in France, the Sorbonne is considered almost a joke, and is viewed as 'resting on its laurels.' Assas is absolutely revered in comparison to the Sorbonne in France, though it's practically unknown internationally. Sun May 17, 2009 06:15 PM Thus, if you are planning a career internationally or in your home state I would recommend sticking with the Sorbonne because it is a household name that almost all employers will be impressed with, whereas they will be unlikely to know the actually better school, Assas. However, if you plan to undertake a career in France, then it would be much better to pursue your degree at Assas than at the Sorbonne. |

The reputation of Assas
Well I'm a french law student so I knw a little about this; i think the situation is : Assas is probably the best french university for law BUT when I speak with professionnels (french), they don't always have the same opinion, for some it's the Sorbonne, for others it's Assas. What is definitly sure is that both are the best in France : best teachers (there is a high concentration of famous law scholars in both universities), best masters. And another thing, and I'm speaking from a student's point of view, the level is definitly higher than other french universities (it's not that students are more intelligent, but the exam are much more difficult). So to sum up, i think Assas is the best (and for you know i'm a Sorbonne student), but it's more a double first-place ranking than anything. Sat Jun 27, 2009 12:20 PM |
