Hi there

I'm going to King's in September! I can't wait, I'm looking forward to it so much...

@Lawchick: Very fortunately, I was offered a place in college accommodation (Great Dover Street Apartments) which I shall probably accept. I was in London last week to do some flathunting, but I didn't find anything I liked better than Great Dover Street Apartments. Íf you can't get into college accommodation you might want to check out www.gumtree.com

Cheers

Thx for the info! Just asking because King's ended up accepting my 2nd ref as academic (I don't know if you remember, but they wouldn't accept it at first because they thought it was just an employment ref, of which I worriedly posted about on here.....but after I sent them some add'l stuff and a letter about it, I guess they changed their minds!) So I may still get in yet, we'll see....

I am still waiting for King's to give me an answer....I am at Stage 4 on the online application tracking system. Anyone use this online tracking thing? It's been at Stage 4 since JULY 21 and it hasn't been updated yet!! They got complete docs for my application on July 21....I sent them some supporting documentation when they were questioning my 2nd "academic" reference, saying it was more employment. I checked online and it had moved my application to Stage 4, processing, around the time they should have received that supporting documentation, on 7/21. But it hasn't moved since. So how long was the turn around on everyone else's applications here?

I was admitted to Queen Mary and Westminster, but King's is my first choice!

I took the IELTS instead of TOEFL. For IELTS, the minimum requirement is average 7.0 or above.

Do you mean that it is a condition of your offer to score 267 or above in TOEFL?

I think, as the enrolment date is coming, the admission officer may consider your application in a short period of time.

Pete, do you count the party as introductory or academic? :P Anyway, I think I might have some tequila left somewhere... :D

Lawchick, congratulations on your reference being accepted as academic! I don't think they'll need as much as four weeks to decide now. Hope to see you around.

Jack, 20 September will be fine, you'll just miss the introductory programme. However, there's going to be a short version of that on 31 September, I think. Otherwise we'll tell you where the library is or whatever they happen to tell us ;)

Oh, and Jack, I'm going to take courses on IP and Media Law. What about you?

Thanks, Nicky. Is the introductory programme organised officially by the law school? What is the date of it? As I have sent an e-mail to the law school, they only told me the enrolment date will be on 21 Sept. That's why I have booked the air ticket to arrive in London on 20 Sept. However, I can change the date of arrival if necessary, as I have not yet paid the deposit :)

Can you tell more on what the introductory programme is about?

BTW, I will also take IP~ and the four subjects I have chosen are:
(1) Industrial and Intellectual Property;
(2) International and Comparative Law of Copyright and Related Rights;
(3) International and Comparative Law of Trade Marks, Designs and Unfair Competition; and
(4) Company Law

Congratulations everyone with your place at KCL. Just happen to pass by, and as I saw some questions posted, well, why not reply.

I'm a current student at KCL, and this month it is hell! Not to scare you people, but be prepared to have enormous stress and fatigue during exams. It is a lot, you will never ever be able to do all which is prescribed during lectures, and you will never be able to remeber everything, let alone what you have rehearsed a month ago.
This is not complaining, it is a fact and everyone is experiencing it here. But, no worries, as the professors say it is actually quite hard to fail, and secondly we have the Willem's law (this is a secret, ask me later) which are applicable.

If you haven't received your place yet, or the bloody tracking system is not showing you what you want: forget it, KCL's administration is a mess! Usually they have lost your stuff or there is some other 'minor' delay which freaks future students out which is really bad. Had the same last year, lost me papers, we're very sorry.... No worries, you'll be accepted.

Secondly, no worries either about subjects: you have 4 weeks, starting when the academic year starts, where you can choose. This means you can go to all lectures and seminars of what you think is interesting, and then make your choice. One advice: take EU competition law by Richard Whish, one of the best professors of King's, or Dalhuisen's class on financial regulations: also world-known for his academic and professional record.

Lastly: accomadation: Great Dover only second best to Stamford Street, but southbank is the place to be, especially in summer, drinking a nice pint along the thames, or visit borough market (known from bridget jones' house, or 'the hide out' of lock stock 2 smoking barrels, or Harry P, whatever, it'is all there!
Private accomodation is fine as well, plenty, depending what you want to spend, and a lot of LLM students rent private, so do not be afraid you miss out on all the fun.
Thirdly, buy a bike: if there is one thing that is fun (and very dangerous) it is biking over the strand or the millenium bridge!

Lastly, have an amazing time, build friendships and do trips (we went to Edinburgh with a group, visit each other's homes', more city trips, played a lot of football matches and had amazing house parties). You'll have fun and learn a lot.

Cheers, I'm off to bed!
