This thread is for prospective students of the University of Cambridge LLM as well as for alumni. Which colleges did you choose in your application? Is your college place already confirmed? Which college then?

For former students: To which college did you go and what is your opinion about that college? When was your place confirmed?

My first choice college is Darwin and my second choice St. Edmunds. But I have not yet a confirmed college place, my CamSIS still shows "Seeking College membership".

How about you?

First choice - Wolfson
Second choice - Darwin
According to the BSG, the colleges' decision takes around 2 or 3 weeks to be made.
My Camsis still shows 'searching college membership', but it was updated with the offer conditions only last week.

Hey, I thought you guys (or mainly future LLM applicants) might like to know that Trinity college has apparently not taken a LLM student for several years but they still say they take LLMs on their website (perhaps keeping it open for that one special person in a decade). I would suggest people don't put that down as their first choice as they are unlikely to get in and will thus get sent off to a second choice college which might already be full (and hence inevitably to the pool).

As is unfortunately the case with many things on these notice boards this is, in fact, not entirely accurate. Having been at Cambridge at the time, I can confirm that Trinity did take at least one LLM in 2007/08. This obviously doesn't mean that they aren't highly selective etc. etc., but the bottom line is ultimately that you should take what you hear in these forums with a rather large grain of salt. Even those posters with the best of intentions might have received inaccurate information from elsewhere. Having been through the process, I check back here from time to time and am amazed how one off-hand comment can set off a frenzy of anguish. Do your own research, and try to relax.

In terms of college selection more generally, you'll have a great time no matter where you go. The LLM is full of interesting people and you'll find that a lot of your social life will be built around other lawyers. But whatever college you are at, you will similarly meet interesting people. The year is ultimately what you make of it and as a grad student your college selection (unless it's driven by funding) is far less important than it is for undergrads.

Nice to meet some Darwinians here! Where are you from? I am from Osnabrueck, Germany.

Why did you choose Darwin College? I think its location is very lovely and central, it offers a lot of sports opportunities and has a nice College Bar ;-)

Are there any current or former members of Darwin College who can tell us a bit more about it? What about accomodation? Information about other colleges is - of course - welcome, too.
