Hi all,

I have been accepted the LLM in European Law at Pantheon-Assas Paris II for 2009/2010 and am wondering if there is anyone else here who has been accepted.

Can anyone who has done the program here provide any feedback on it, bearing in mind that it is quite a new program? Also, any general comments about Pantheon-Assas would be greatly appreciated.

Look forward to meeting you all in Paris!

Hi Aurora. You may look at the master 2 courses for your master 1 in european law. Assas has that pipeline that you have to follow.

By the way, a number of master 2 are too selective, have the taux d'admission de 1.6%. Very selective.

Good luck.

Master 2 course appears to be the post graduate degree................so does it imply after my LL.M I again have to apply for a P.G degree .............

if that is so do u have any idea as to the duration of such course and whether there is any scholarship available ...........for Master-2 as it may be difficult for me to fund it even if I get through..........

any way thanks a lot for your suggestions :-)

I have been accepted into the LLM program for 2009-2010 as well. Is anyone already in Paris? I will be relocating there in two weeks from NYC. It would be great to establish a network before school starts. Does anyone know how the French internship/summer associate programs work. At large firms in the US you spend a summer between your second and third year of law school securing employment. Because this is a one year program, does anyone know how the process works in France? Is there on campus recruiting? Congrats to everyone and looking forward to meeting you all soon!

Hi everybody,

May I ask you for those who've been accepted to the LLM at Assas what kind of interview they had before? Do they require a fluent level in french?? Are all the questions in french during the interview phone call?
Thanks.

I did not have an interview. I speak basic French but am taking an intensive language course prior to the start. I am currently working in Paris and studying French prior to the start of the program so I would advise you to have a basic working knowledge.

Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of applying (late) to both Assas and Sorbonne. I've already undergone the Sorbonne interview, which wasn't all that difficult, and am gathering documents for both.

My problem is this - tuition for Sorbonne is €6000 whereas Assas is nearer €2200. One carries an international name brand, the other a program I genuinely want to undertake.

How does Assas stack up for international firms?

Also, I noticed that Assas indicates two rounds of application - if I apply now would I still likely be offered a spot in September?

Thank you.

There may be such things in France, but it is more likely to be on a case by case basis. You may however apply during the year to find an internship. As to on campus recruiting, there may be a "law fair", but again, this greatly depends of the university you are in.

Good luck !

(a French student, not from Paris)

Assas is known in France to be either the best or the ex aequo best with the Sorbonne. If the firm you want to apply to is truly international, I think they will know that in their recruiting process. You don't have to be afraid of studying what you _really_ want to do. But whatever your choice, it will be a good one !

Basically, you may know that the "LLM" is absolutely not in the tradition of French law universities. It is used by some (big & famous) universities to stand on the international level, recruit foreign students, and, indeed, get some money. If that may be an interesting legal and foreign experience, this is however not qualifying to practice law in France, and this is not a national degree, but only a university degree.

I am afraid you may not be eligible for an application in a Master 2, because it is required that you hold a Master 1 degree (an equivalent of the LLB). For the record, because it is a national degree, the tuition fees do not suffer the comparison with the shiny LLM (around 200€).

But in any case, the LLM is a great asset, but mostly for international firms in Paris, rather than French law firms, looking first for a qualification of advocate (M1 at least + Bar exam + 2 years of law school).

Hi ive been accepted too mate only today. V excited. If you look on the website they have a new Alumni thread which wasnt there a few months ago with all the recent students. Gives you an idea of just how small this course is. Im not sure about Assas I mean from what ive heard it is a class university. What are you planning on doing with this masters, and when are you moving over?

Sorry, what 10000 euros are you talking about? I thought that the tuition is only 2200 euros for the LLM at Assas?

I received an email saying that my application will be reviewed in September.

How can this be possible? Surely they would try to answer all the applications before summer vacation - one would presume.

Does this mean I have to wait until late August to find out what I'll be doing the following month?

mmcgold:- not good news, it probably means that you are on the waiting list... They will likely take a look at your application if more people decline their offers than expected.

I have been reading this and several other threads on this website (which is a fabulous resource) and I am just trying to figure out whether the LLM in European Law at Assas is taught in French or English.

I am an American trained attorney and have been practicing law in New York City for six years. I am now exploring the possibility of pursuing an LLM in Paris beginning Fall 2010. I previously took three years of French in high school, almost twenty years ago. I would surely take a comprehensive course in French to help adapt to living in Paris, but I do not believe I would be able to handle legal coursework taught in French.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction (even if that means turning around)? If Assa does not offer coursework in English, are there any other schools in Paris that offer an LLM program in English.

Thank you

The LLM program is taught in English. I would contact the admissions office for further info.

Good luck!

Because I am enrolled for the Fall and am a US lawyer as well. I would go to the website, navigate through it in French and it will direct you. I would call as well to get additional info. Good luck!
