Hi guys

I'm in Cambridge doing the LL.M at the moment and for all those applying now: it looks daunting now but it isn't too bad. There are 157 people in the LL.M this years so plenty of chances to get in...

try to relax..

Hi Cedric,

Congratulations for getting into Cambridge!
Could you share your experience and tell us how long applicants generally have to wait before receiving an answer? Do they make offers before the deadline?Or do everybody has to wait for months??
Also, could you give us information about your "profile" so we can have an idea about their criteria of selection?

Thanx very much for your answer!

Hi

The first offers came in around the middle of February, Oxford was a bit later (they all came out on the same day for Ox). So I guess you are all in for a longish wait.

As far as profile goes, I talked to many people on the LL.M and my impression is that one has a first class degree and some things on top of that (mooting, publications or sports awards...). There are people from all ages and countries. As I said before, we have 157 people and about 250 offer were made, I think. So chances are pretty high you can get it in. It's not exactly the most exclusive LL.M out there...

Let me know if you have specific questions..

Dear mkd2010,

I have submitted my online application two weeks ago and sent in my supporting documents last friday.. I asked my 1st referee to reseal the reference as advised by Awojc (thanks)..

I am crossing my fingers now. Hopefully I've submitted everything properly.. By end of this week, I'd start on my oxford application..

Quick question!!

Anybody sent in their supporting documents by courier?? I'm from India and will courier. The Camsis site indicates a different address for applications by courier and by post, however, the Applicant Cover Sheet indicates that I have to send to a specific address (the one that the Camsis indicates for post). Can anyone shed any light on this??

thanks!

That's a good question! I'm also gonna send application materials by DHL and they demand indication of a specific person to whom they shall transfer the docs! did anyone face this problem?

Okay, so I called the Cambridge Office of Graduate Admissions and double checked. All those sending supporting documents by courier are to mail them to the 4, Mill Lane' address on the opening page of the Camsis site, before proceeding to the 'Self Service'.

Phew!

Guys, sorry for a stupid question, but as I understand, the overseas students must submit 3 packs of documents. Does it mean that we must collect 9 references from each referees??

I sent by courier too. To the Mill Lane address. I faced the same problem with the courier as well, but they seemed ok once I showed them a printout of the instructions. I told my referees to give me three copies of their references in a sealed envelope...

Ok, and all other documents - application forms, diplomas, transcripts must be submitted in 3 copies?? This is what they mean about 3 packs?

Yes...i'm afraid so!
All of this is explained in the application pack (checklist part). They say exactly what you need to send as well as the number of copies they want.

which are good colleges (tradition, brand name)? which provide funding? havent done any research on this but would like to know your view on this

Hi.

The Cambridge online application form says that you should write a maximum of 16 lines when writing about your reason for undertaking the course. Does a blank line between paragraphs count as a line? I wouldn't think so, but the application looked strange when I took a printout. The text didn't fit properly in the window.

Has anybody else had the same problem?

I am doint the paper application and I havent found the section where you have to write your personal statement besides two sections in which you have to indicate your additional relevant activities and future plans..does someone know why there is this difference?

I'm having trouble with the section on why I am taking the course. Have just outlined general reason and then mentioned the courses I'm interested in, but there's not much room for detail. Not sure what they want!!

ha ha so true. I'm trying to save any career related stuff for the second box then can keep the first for academic things like why i like the department, the courses. but have gone from having too many words to not enough, which is crazy as there is so little space i feel a bit silly if i don't fill it! went a bit wild cutting it down.

Dear all,
I have some troubles with the personal reference for Cambridge Trusts (online application). As I have to print the Personal referee's instruction sheet and give it to my referee, does he have to write it by hand?? I was trying to fill online the part to be completed by the applicant and then send it to him, but I noticed that I cannot save the data typed into the form.
What did you do with your personal reference form?
Many thanks

hi all

do any of you know what the chances of securing funding are like, specifically for oxford's BCL? I know a few people who have done the BCL, but none of them received funding to do it. As far as I can tell, there are a number of different funding pools - the university as a whole, the college you end up at, and the AHRC. The first two 'pools' are mostly merit-based I guess, but how does allocation of AHRC funding work? to what extent is funding need-based? of course there are CDLs etc, but I've already got a mountainous mountain of debt and no sources of support outside loans (potentially). it seems to make little sense applying if I'm going to have to double my student debt in the event I got in - especially if (god forbid!) I end up in academia. How do you guys plan to fund it?
