LLM EC Competition law
Hi there !Sat Aug 13, 2005 04:26 PM I've decided to go for LLM Studies in EU Competition law. I would like to study in the Netherlands, but I still haven't decidede whether it's good to choose Utrecht or Amsterdam. I know it sounds a bit funny, but ... I have no clue whatsoever ... I heard Utrecht is very famous, has something like an "old school" prestige; on the other hand Amsterdam has a LLM programme which has a specialisation in Competion and Tax law, and more like a commercial, "new age" approach. I don't know ... can anyone help me ? Basic stuff, anything, pros and cons. I have absolutely no experience/ knowledge about studying in the EU. The thing is that in our country there is a very poor approach towards competition law, the books are mainly written by economists only, and -also- law firms and mnc's always regard studies abroad as an asset ... I am from a non EU-member Eastern Europe country. |

Hello :-)Fri Sep 02, 2005 08:34 PM Unfortunately I cannot give you any relevant information on the programme in Utrecht. But I am thinking in doing the LLM specializing in Competition law in Amsterdam as well! As far as I know, the programme is currently being restructured (I wrote an Email to the coordinators and they could not give me any information regarding the question if there will be a programme in EC Competition or even in business law in 2006/2007), so I think we have to wait until October or November to find out about the new programme (beginning in September 2006). Or do you maybe have any other information?? Concerning the reputation of NL universities in general, I know that Leiden is considered to be very good. However, the University of Amsterdam is quite old, too and should be good as well. As far as lifestyle is concerned, I would say that Amsterdam is unique!! Cheers! |

i've your same problem.Tue Oct 04, 2005 09:03 PM i'm really interested in ec competition law and ec law in general. i think belgiun and the netherlands as the best place for that subject. about NL, leiden, utrecht and amsterdam are said the most important and have a good reputation across eu (if u wish to find a job here). about belgium, i suggest u the european college in bruges, good even for all the aspects of ec law (such as evironment, human rights etc.) i wish i'll be admitted at bruges, however i'm still considering other llm. good luck |

So I am going to apply for another LLM. Nickey, I wish you good luck with your application for brudges! And Ramonn, yes, I hope we meet in Amsterdam - I fell in love with that city, so I will definitely go there. Did you consider the Vrije Universiteit as well? They have a program in EU business.
