LLM in European Law: Birmingham vs. Ghent vs. Tilburg
Hello everybody,Wed Jul 01, 2009 11:56 AM I send divers applications for a LLM in European Law to different law schools in Europe (France, Belgium, Luxemburg, UK, Netherlands). - I was accepted in Ghent: PROS: there are some professors which are also teaching in Bruges (College of Europe) which is definately a sign for quality and which could be interesting for me because I want to go there next year CONS: I read on this forum that Ghent isn't very known... no prestige - that's why it seems to be hard to find a job in Brussels - I was also accepted in Tilburg (NL): PROS and CONS: I don't know :( I didn't found much information about the university of Tilburg or their LLM in European Law.... All I know is that there are some Dutch rankings where it is under the top 3. But in the Netherlands they don't care really about rankings. Who knows something about the UNiversity of Tilburg? An idea about quality of teaching, carreer perspectives, reputation etc??? - I was accepted to Birmingham too Same thing as above - I don't know nothing about this university, reputation, quality of teaching, teaching methods etc etc... All I know is that the university is placed 7th in the good university guide of the Times. DO YOU HAVE SOME INFORMATIONS SUGGESTIONS, CONTACTS WHICH COULD HELP ME TO MAKE DECISION? I'm really in a hurry because GHetn wants me to accept until the 15th of june!!! EVERY COMMENT IS WELCOME! Thank you very much |

Go to Liege, and follow the LLM programme in European competition and IP law. Several teachers from Bruges, bilingual as in Bruges, only EU law centered, very well ranked.

LLM in European Law: Birmingham vs. Ghent vs. Tilburg
I was an undergraduate at Birmingham on the Law programme and I did my final year dissertation in European Law. I can advise specifically on the LLM but I can definately say that its a great faculty especially the European Law Profs. They are from a number of different jurisdictions themselves so the teaching has a really pan European feel. Also Birmingham as an interdisiplinary European Research Institute which is really developing a strong repuatation. They have a lot of interdisciplinary graduate meetings/ lectures (which i used to go to) and they are really interesting.Wed Jul 22, 2009 08:24 PM Aside from that Birmingham is a beautiful green leafed campus with its own train station. Would really reccommend it! |

LLM in European Law: Birmingham vs. Ghent vs. Tilburg
Hello,Wed Jul 22, 2009 09:07 PM I have studied in both England and the Netherlands. - Ghent; not such a good choice as its quite expensive and career prospects are not good due to its reputation. - Birmingham; decent university in a big city. Problem would be price (as its quite expensive) and I would suggest undertaking such a masters (European) in mainland Europe (self preference; I am actually English so I'm not disrespecting English education). - Tilburg; Has a brillaint reputation in NL and beyond in Law (and economics), it is actually ranked as the best in NL and benelux (benelux part is what I'm told by a lawyer currently working in Brussels). Personally I would (and have) choose(n) Tilburg. For Law it is a brillaint university with a very high reputation. The faculty are very helpful for legal matters and others such as housing which is guarenteed for international students. This coupled with the price, would make me go for Tilburg. |
