My friends I have recently decided to go to a LLM course in trade/shipping in the UK starting September 2009. I know that I might be a bit late but I am determined to go ahead. My initial search in the shipping community pointed me towards the direction of Cardiff and Swansea. A few also mentioned the possibility of going to Lund in Europe but not so sure about that because I am not sure who teaches in that University. Any recommendation you can give will be appreciated. Please note that I have only days to put my applicatuion in. I think it is still worth trying. You have nothing to lose. I do not think that Cardiff still offers an LLM in shipping. They did offer a very good course in shipping law in the past but they stopped it a few years ago. I did my LLM in Swansea, which offers an excellent LLM in maritime law. The LLM is internationally recognised and is very respected in the shipping circles. I personally found the LLM experience unique: The classes are taught in small groups by a top team and they are combined with a series of guest lectures delivered by not only acacemics from other universities but also practitioners. The environment is also another factor to consider when you decide: All the teachers are very approachable and there to help.
Hope I have helped you
Kosta

I agree with Kosta. Just give it a try. I would certainly recommend Swansea because this year in Swansea was excellent. Great and very approachable lecturers, which are very well respected in the shipping cycles and a fantastic environment. I have nothing to add to what Kosta says which was also the case in my year (2008-09).

Many thanks for all the advice. I also spoke with people from the shipping and trade cycle and everybody told me to go to Swansea for my LLM because it has very good LLM programmes in maritime and trade law, which are recognised all over the world. I also checked Swansea activities and student experience on the Swansea website, which look superb and spoke with people from the Law School who were very helpful. I have just put my application in. Just wish me good luck!!!

Hello Marina,
I think that Swansea is a very good choice and wish you all the best when it comes to the admission process.
You might want to check out the options for university accommodation - Ty Beck is a great place to live...

All the best
flori

P.S.
If you are admitted to the LLM in Swansea, you will need a very good raincoat/umbrella :-)
