It is surely a tough choice..! but I would say...please reffer to the modules offered by them and then decide...!
If KCL provides some really interesting modules please select KCL....and smiliarly if you feel QMUL provides something which you really interested in then please select QMUL..!
both have equally good faculty.

I had to make the same choice...I selected QMUL for my own reasons...!
thanks...

I do not see any choice at all! you can't compare KCL to QMUL.

Ok....probably the firms which you'll have spoken to does not recongise QMUL....or in your views there is no comparison between KCL and QMUL...!

The firm in which I have applied for a training contract specfically asked me to choose QMUL instead of KCL..!
So thanks alot for your suggestions...but there are many people who think that both of them are really chose to each other...
and undoubtedly KCL has stood at that position since a very very lond time...and QMUL has just risen up to that position...but that does not justify in saying that there is no match..!

As I said it is your opinion that KCL is better than QMUL...similarly others have opinion that QMUL is a better choice than KCL....each one of us has their own reasons for selecting...and each one of us uses different criterias to make these choices...!

Private Equity,

its great to hear that you've fought to give a graduate from "non-brand" (comparatively speaking) school a chance. I always found this pre-occupation with brand names to be beyond idiotic, especially since the best professors in their respective fields may be from non brand name schools. Heck, isn't the professor of jurisprudence from oxford, originally from KCL? And isn't Stephen Weatherill - oxford's expert on EU law - originally from nottingham?

It's really sad that even law firms don't know where quality teaching is and just cling to some perceived reputation.

I completely agree with Private Equity. In terms of reputation, modules and teachers for the international business LLM and the international finance LLM, KCL is head and shoulders above QMUL. The ranking is also accurate but I would place KCL on par with LSE when it comes to finance law modules.
Lega_India: I would understand if your argument was about LSE or UCL but not QMUL (although QMUL is a good university and has some very interesting IP and banking modules)

Hello all,

Thanks for your answer. The answer of Private Equity is very thrilling since after my LLM i want to work in an investment bank or a firm which is working in the financial field in the UK... I am absolubetely not interested in a career in a belgian law firm for the moment...
King's has a better finance module though, i just don't want exclusively finance modules in my LLM, this is the reason why i took the international business specialisation with some financial modules...
My hesitation with QM is that its commercial law departement is ranked number one these days... business and commerce is the same thing in some way...
I was then thinking that QM had a good reputation in London which is not the case here in Belgium, all my teacher are totally against QM except for the competition law field...

Private Equity 1, what about Nottingham or Birmingham?

I thought Nottingham especially had an excellent reputation? It is definitely better than Bristol for law, don't you think?

Any Chinese here?

Hundreds of Chinese go to UK to receive further education every year. But it seems there is no Chinese here.

I know most of them choose to study business instead of law, however, I didn't expect the number of legal students is so small

I have seen the module of International Business Law at KCL and I think the module is fantastic as they have a good mix of finance and trade laws. They have three papers of finance i.e. International Finance Law I, II and III (taught by Prof Ravi Tennekon) other than international business transaction I and II and Arbitration and Trade laws. So for somebody who is really keen to know/study both I think this is very sufficient.

Please note that most of the LLM student who take Finance laws read the book on international finance written by Ravi Tennekon.

Regarding QMUL, I am afraid I havent seen the module at QMUL so would not be in position to comment on the same. But yes, as far as the job prospects are concerned I dont think that QMUL is behind. It is also very well recoganised in london.

Bottom line is ....please compare the modules and see which one is better for you.

Honestly, you can not compare KCL to QMUL whether in terms of general reputation or prestige or in relation to the International business law specialization. It would be a colossal mistake to go for QMUL. For this program, the flag bearers are LSE and KCL. The latter has better modules but the former a slightly better reputation. UCL would be a good choice as well.

hey marlguil,

in terms of my own experience of law school at an undergraduate level, i do not believe that you will find there to be a significant difference between the top ranked colleges in terms of the quality and reputation of the academic departments and instruction.

you've a difficult decision to make! in terms purely of rankings, kcl is ranked sixth by the guardian as compared to qmul's ninth, however qmul is ranked first as far as all matters finance are concerned.

good luck!
