College ranking?
Hi i am from India, I wanted to know if there's some official site from where i can find the most accurate college rankings according to which i could list the following in order of preference. Fri Jul 24, 2009 10:58 AM I've applied to these for LLM 2009-10 session in Commercial/Corporate/International business law. All of them are providing the subject of my interest, however, i don't have much idea which one i should zero-in on. I've received offer letter from Leeds, Manchester and a conditional offer from UCL so far. I'll be hearing from Cardiff by next week. Can anyone please throw some light on the ranking as well as help me in coming to a conclusion as to which college i should give more preference to?? 1. UCL 2. Cardiff 3. Leeds 4. Manchester 5. Kings College, London Thanks. P.S. I'd like to stick in or around London, and a place "moderately" expensive will still be okay. |

Sun Jul 26, 2009 08:10 AM Hi i am from India, I wanted to know if there's some official site from where i can find the most accurate college rankings according to which i could list the following in order of preference. Anushree...I don't know on what basis have you selected cardiff.....? And why on earth Leeds.... If you really want to go to london or around london...I would recommend UCL,LSE,KCL,QMUL,SOAS....These you should surely apply if you want to go to some place in or around london....! I would suggest you please apply to better Universities....not Leeds and those types....UNLESS you think you grades are not good enough to get you through anything in London..! you can P.M. if you have any specific questions towards London colleges...I had applied to quiet a few of those Colleges |

I am once sorry to differ from you point of views Private Equity and Banker...! But this again the same pointless and baseless arguement which you start again..!Sun Jul 26, 2009 01:06 PM I known sufficient people and firms from all these places you have mentioned who not only know about UCL...but will also prefer UCL better than KCL..! And UCL and KCL are not miles apart....! There are same...! I think in another forum you had argued the same thing....that UCL and KCL can be debateble....and now you have changed you stance...! And considering International law specifically I would suggest anjushree should go to UCL...! All the more...India widely recognizes UCL...! I am not posting to any of your replies after this....(no offence guys...but our arguments will have no end...and will not lead to any conclusion...that's the only reason for not replying) I would let anushree make her own decision... and it will be best if she talks to students or ex-students of the college itself...! |

oh...really...i didn't see anyone asking for your reply specifically on this forum...! We help students out of responsibility to show them right directions...not misguide them....! So at the most what We should be doing is only giving right opinions for general purpose (not specifically Banking Sector)...Anushree hasn't mentioned she is interested in Banking Sector at all.. (though she may be really interested) Sorry If I am getting personal...but since you have pointed out the issue I had to clarify this.Sun Jul 26, 2009 01:33 PM And I don't think we were looking for whether Banks come to the University of not....of whether banks are interested in taking certain University Students...! What we are looking for is which place is better for Commercial/Corporate/International business law...! So it's not International Law as whole...but specifically 'international Business Law'....so once again UCL is known for it's commercial and business law subjects.. I therefore urge you please look at it from all angles and understand all sectors and not only from the Banking point of view. It is a kind request to you. |

legal-India : I would suggest that you take a look at the teachers and courses for "International Business law " or " Commercial LLM" at KCL and UCL before you answer

I am in London right now..and I live in a students hall with more than 1000 students...and I must have gone for atleast 20 post-graduate LLM parties...haven't meet a single person from SOAS doing an LLM. SOAS is a really bad choice...Thu Nov 26, 2009 01:35 PM Talking about Manchester....well...i have discussed this earlier....Manchester is surviving on it's old reputation...it's dropped considerable numbers in the ranking...and I don't see any hope in going to a University is drasctically falling... |

To say that SOAS is a bad choice is a stupid thing to say.Thu Nov 26, 2009 03:35 PM It is internationally recognized all over the world and if it was bad I don't think a place such as Columbia law would allow its students to get an LLM from SOAS in conjunction with its JD degree. If you don't know what you are talking about, please don't give any opinions that are not supported with any evidence. |

Thu Nov 26, 2009 05:42 PM To say that SOAS is a bad choice is a stupid thing to say. Dude...i don't know what shit u just said. I am talking about personal experience...I don't need any evidence to support personal experience. I am living in a student's accomodation just 10 minutes away from SOAS. I have many friends from SOAS....ALL of them are unaware that SOAS has Law as well....lol (And mind you...SOAS is just one single wide building which has all it's lectures of all the fields in that same building...I still haven't figured out how they manage within such a small place...) Further, in my Entire students hall (which is the most preferred accomodation for SOAS students since it is the most closest) there is not a single student studying LLM at SOAS. All the more...we usually have a Thursday night drinks for all the LLM students in London....and this is happening since week 1 of October...I have spoken to so many LLm students of different colleges...but haven't seen a single student from SOAS...! Further, in many International Moot Competition's where we have been participating....SOAS is not even in the list of participants....lol....! additionally, at the Law fairs...for job recruitments....all the colleges have their representatives ...but no representative for SOAS...! It does not get worst than this...! [Edited by Legal_India on 26 Nov 2009] |

I have to interfere.Wed Feb 24, 2010 05:38 PM Manchester is not surviving to an old reputation. Manchester is one of the finest law schools in the UK. Its a Russel group University and the University is 26th in the world ranking. Regardless of ranking, the school is constantly targeted by the biggest firms in the UK and has one of the most respected law departments in the UK. Of course if you only see London colleges that is your problem but to bash a school for no reason is not a very bright thing to do. The same goes for SOAS. At the end of the day an LLM from any of the schools will not give you a job in London unless you are a qualified solicitor. The market is packed and flooded with UK grads with 2.1 and 1sts looking for a job. [Edited by pedrinus on 24 Feb 2010] |
