need advice, SOAS,QM or Strathclyde
Hi all, I received offers from SOAS in International Economic Law, Queen Mary in Int. Business Law, Durham and Strathclyde, but have not decide where to go. I need some advice``` Tue Jul 28, 2009 05:55 PM I looked all the modual lists from these law schools. It seems like that Queen Mary has better teachers than SOAS, but I think SOAS is more special. As for Strathclyde, it has very good course setting though it is not in London. Could anyone give me advice on this? thanks! plus, which one has better job prospects? thanks, but after I looked the modual of Durham I hesitated because Durham's course setting is more domestic, and I want to choose a more internationally set.

Choose the university that has selection of courses that you find most interesting. SOAS and Queen Mary are both great institutions to study law judging from what I have heard from past students, so you can't really make a wrong choice between those two.Wed Jul 29, 2009 03:46 PM I chose SOAS over Queen Mary because it seems more unique, and I'm not worried about future job prospects, in fact what I have seen during my work is that being more specialized is only a good thing nowadays, and in the end it is your qualities as a person that will matter the most. |

Thx for your advice. Well, yes, qualities of a person matter the most. Studying in whichever institution, not only we learn academic things, but also many other qualities will be enhanced I think. Whatever, decision is decision.

Between QMUL and SOAS, I would go for the former especially in terms of employment prospects.

Strathclyde is located in Glasgow, Scotland. Law education is distinct from England law schools, so I don't think there is a comparison between them.Tue Aug 25, 2009 03:49 PM SOAS is more famous than QM, but its reputation is based on it specific edge in Africa and Asia research. As for commercial law study, it is not a compatitor of QM, which has a 5* law school. There are only two 5* law school in universtiy of london. The other one is UCL. |

I agree.Tue Aug 25, 2009 04:34 PM Generally SOAS has a better reputation and it is better known than Queen Mary. Of course you can still study Commercial Law at SOAS giving you a greater advantage if you want to have an overview of emerging markets and also Asia and Africa! Def a bonus! |

I disagree with Napoleon since although distinct Law Schools in England are much more than the ones up in Scotland, the latter has University law schools that are all amazing and all up to top15 rankings.Tue Aug 25, 2009 10:24 PM I am heading to Glasgow in a few days and I am very confident of my choice ! |

Wed Aug 26, 2009 05:12 AM Durham, is that a good uni for the LLM of international Trade and commercial Law ? or maybe glasgow ?! (LLM in itnernational commercial law) Durham law school is in the same league together with LSE, UCL etc. However, its research edge is in EU law, human rights law, criminal law. Durham does have a corporate and commercial institute, but its research is limited in sales law and corporate government. Durham international business law program, in my view, is developed just for international students. As for glasgow, I am not in the position to speak since I have little knowledge of it. Congratulations dude! I am glad that you chose the law school you like and have faith in it. Please don't take me wrong. I didn't mean that scotland law schools are not as good as those in England. I was saying that England law schools teach common law, while scotland law schools teach rome law. There are huge differences between them, thus it is not suitable to say which one is better. Just like you can not say whether US law school are better than German ones. Glasgow has a triumph history. Best wishes. |
