Columbia Against NYU?

I am applying to colleges in the Fall, and I'd like to know which school is better for me. Now, assuming I would be accepted into both school, which shall I choose? I wish to study Criminal Law and become a Prosecutor in New York. I've visited both school, and I love both campuses. I like NYU's more because I like the area more. WHich would be better for me? Thank you so much.

Ask anyone (except NYU students) which is better and you'll only get one answer.

NYU: Legal Theory, Tax, Antitrust, Intl Law, Crim Law, Con Law

Columbia: Corporate, Intl Law, Crim Law, Con Law

NYU's faculty is generally better than Columbia's, but Columbia might have an edge in student quality and connections to corporate law firms (if that's what you're interested in).

I had to decide between both schools and choose NYU because it possesses a more intellectual/philosophical faculty, whereas Columbia's faculty is more corporate oriented.

Personally, I find corporate law to be quite boring and dry.

Are you applying for an LL.M or JD? Are you domestic? Afaik I know Columbia only accepts foreign students into their LL.M program. So choosing between these 2 law schools might be moot.

Prosecutor in New York? You mean District Attorney? I doubt an LL.M helps for these positions. A US citizenship is mandatory though. A JD is usually enough. The typical candidate will start as an ADA, possibly after interning first during law school.

Columbia vs NYU. Columbia has more overall layman prestige. The Ivy league status helps there, it's by far a better undergrad, plus the med school and all. As law schools strictly speaking, they're really close with NYU being stronger in tax and jurisprudence while Columbia has an edge in corporate and IP. Certain (older) hiring partners think much more highly of Columbia, because back when they were in law school, Columbia was top 5 while NYU was top 20. Things are changing though. Besides, Lipton, Rosen and Katz, 3 of the 4 founding partners of WLRK, were NYU grads.
