LLM in europe
hi every one!Fri Aug 26, 2005 03:12 AM i need some help on making a big choice. i learnt that some countries in europe offer free masters programs. futhermore i am interested in pursuing an LLM that borders on international trade and investment law, IT law and international commercial practice. the whole idea is to be equiped to be in the position to be involved in policy formulation and implementation of polices here in Nigeria and africa from an international level, and to consult for interntional organisations, multinationals, governments and locals so as to improve the econony. what school offers such elaborate LLM and offers the nil financial advantage/ sponsorship. thanks |

You'd have to cast your net much wider. It's a bit difficult to find an LLM in English in the countries which don't charge tuition (Denmark, Finland, Holland, Sweden, etc). And the ones where English is spoken usually have tuition fees (e.g. Holland)Tue Sep 13, 2005 04:04 AM If you're so interested in Int. Trade, why don't u try the program at U or Pretoria? If you get in, you'd be on a full scholarship for the duration of the program. See the 'Africa' board. Cheers. |

Hello!Tue Sep 27, 2005 09:52 PM If I get my LLM in the US and pass the NY bar, what do I need to do in order to practice law within the EU (particularly Sweden and France)? Should I just get a JD in the US then go for the LLM in Sweden instead? Any info on the subject is appreciated. Thanks |

What you need to do in order to be entitled to practice law within the EU depends on what country you want to practice in. However, if you are admitted in one country, other EU countries will accept your legal qulification as a lawyer because of EU law.Wed Sep 28, 2005 02:18 PM However, even if you are admitted to the bar in an EU country, this does not mean you will find a job. If you do want to work as a lawyer in Europe, you should make sure you get a solid undergraduate degree from a university of the country you want to practice in. If you want to work in an international law firm or company and if you are not from an English speaking country, you should consider doing an LLM in the US or UK. If you are fluent in English already, which I assume from your posting, you will not need an LLM for this very reason. It may still be an advantage to do an LLM if you want to specialize (e.g. in tax) or if you did not study abroad until then. Without an undergraduate degree (+ the bar exam) from a European country it will be very hard to succeed in getting job in any European country. |
