Anyone from Africa applying?

Hi Everyone,
This is my second post here. Is there anyone from Africa also applying for any of the LL.M. programs in the US? So far I am seeing none. African brothers and sisters, are you there?

I think I will keep this thread going until I get someone applying from Africa. So far it seems no one is as yet interested in US Law schools, or am I mistaken? Anyone....

Hi Econ rights,

I've just finished an LLM at a nice US university and have been wondering why, out of 220 LLMs, there were only 3 Africans (I'm not one of them). I feared this could be an unfortunate policy of the school not to consider Africa as a continent worth taking huge batches of students from (as opposed to Japan, China, India, Brazil). Now I think there's also just not all that many African students applying for LLM programs, due to financial, cultural, language and other barriers. Don't know, but the lack of response to your query may confirm the second hypothesis. Perhaps you could give a little more insight?

Hi Fleur de Lies,
First, I must confess I am worried about the trend I am witnessing, although I am hoping that its because its still early in the process and before the end of the year, there will be more people from Africa applying. I think the biggest barrier is financial rather than language or cultural. All commonwealth countries, including South Africa speak English, and that's the majority of countries in Africa, as for culture, well, I always believe the human being is an adaptable creature :-), so anyone can adapt anywhere, don;t you think?. But, if by the end of the year there are no Africans applying, that will not only be sad, but very worrying, although I hope that will not be the case. Congratulations on finishing your LL.M., Fleur de Lies, and best of luck in your endeavors!
Best
E r

Hi cabg!
Nice to hear from you! Which universities do you want to apply to? I am also an applicant so the most we can do is share tips together, I am applying to about six schools with Yale and NYU as my top most choices. Plan to to teach or specialize in International Law thus my top selections.
Have you already started your application?
