hello ,Thu Nov 05, 2009 07:02 PM I am a lawyer in mumbai and have given tofel recently.my score is just eighty-five in tofel and now i am slightly put off due to such low score.i want to apply in middle level university to name a few UC davis, calilfornia Univ of San Deigo kent college of law, chicago. california western school of law chapman university Geroge town university Geroge washington univ Golden gate univ although above list does not sound too impressive but i am basically interested in doing LLM in international laws and above universities provide pretty descent international law program. i have got 2 years work experience too in civil and customs and excise.can some one please suggest me whether i stand a good chance to get admission in either of the above mentioned univ with such a low tofel score?i am not even in the mood of giving Tofel again but would like to apply in above univ. |

If your law degree was in english, you don't need to bother with the TOEFL score.Tue Nov 10, 2009 06:48 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but some law courses in India are taught in english. Is that wright? |

I think that this may not be sufficient. The most important thing is whether your first language is English. If not, it is very likely that you will be asked for producing TOEFL certificate. Tue Nov 10, 2009 08:39 PM Probably every university will have its own policy on this. You should e-mail them to be 100 % sure. If you have still some time, consider retaking the exam. This result substantially decreases your chances to get in. |

hey thanks alot for ur reply.I have done my entire higher education and Post graduation i english.Wed Nov 11, 2009 09:34 AM Right now i think of giving tofel again as than i will be short of time. Can some one tell me about what are the chances of getting admission in the above list of universities with the above tofel score. Does university ranking really matter alot or is it just the brand name madness? i am planning to apply in Uc davis in california as that univ so accept low tofel score. |

There are also some excellent law schools out there which have lower TOEFL requirements. For instance Cornell University Law School in NY has an excellent LLM programme and requires only 79 points on TOEFL:Wed Nov 11, 2009 04:38 PM www.lawschool.cornell.edu/admissions/apply/upload/… This is a top 10 lawschool in US and is more reputable than any of the universities on your list. Think about it. Best of luck, Marcvs [Edited by marcvs on 11 Nov 2009] |

i have good work exp in the field of Custosm and Excise,Arbitration ,Banking and insolvency laws in Bombay High Court and tibunals.Wed Nov 11, 2009 05:14 PM though my drafting skills are not polished and i need to improve alot in that aspect but i am good at search and interpretation of law.So doing LLM in international law would it be a good choice? As i am interested in international arbitration, international trade transactions, interantional business and bankign norms, thats is the reason why i want to do LLM in international law. so with my above work experience will my application be considered in good univ considering my low tofel score of eighty-five and avg.GPA in my academic results. what will be the prospects of international law outside US ie if i want to apply in for job in other countries or want to come back to my own home country. is international law is considered as good in US particuarly for pursuing career in US ? which are the other fields of law that are considered as upcoming and emerging such as medicine n law or may be healthcare laws, environment law, media laws.i will these are upcoming fields whose prospects i would like to know. |

another factor to which i will give lots of consideration is cost factor .if univ ranking does not matter then i would like to go for univ which provide LLm course within the bracket of 30-40k $ .
