LLM Nepal
Hi there. I am interested in taking an LLM in Nepal after my BVC next year. Tue Sep 06, 2005 08:29 PM I know absolutely nothing about the course or how well it is repsected internationally, particularly here in the UK. Can anyone tell me something about the LLMs from Katmandu - I am interested in General LLM, Human Rights and Criminal Justice... I would appreciate any advice whatsoever! Kind regards, Claudia. |

I do not know anything about this programs myself. An LLM in Katmandu sounds like an adventure, but I think you should find out more about this school and its program before you apply. You should also ask yourself how this LLM will be beneficial for your further professional life and make sure that the degree is recognized in your country!

As far as I know there is some kind of civil war in Nepal as half the country is in the hands of Maoist rebels. I think you should think twice before going there.., my personal opinion. Good luck whatever you decide!

Well, I am still interested in the Nepal for my LLM - I really want to go!! I will of course check out the situation before I embark on such a journey - I will take advice from my embassy before I make any serious decisions.Mon Oct 17, 2005 11:47 PM I am still interested to hear from anyone who has embarked on such an adventure or has been to Tibet or Katmandu. I am from nepal. I did a intermediate (2 years), graduate (3 years ) and a 2 years LLM from Tribhuwan University. As far as the recognition of the course is concerned i promise you you wont regret. It is recognised all over the world. Besides, LLm in nepal costs you around 1000$ per year. The course is offered in 5 different streams: commercial , international, criminal, constitutional and environmental law.Mon Nov 07, 2005 05:44 AM The application opens during november-december and there is an entrance exam after the submission of application sometime during december. Results are out during the first week of january and the class resume immediately in mid-january. The instruction is in english. However, every year only two fireign students are accepted under the reservation policy of the Tribhuwan University (government university). Af far as the conflict and the rebel stories concerns;you do not have to worry about anything. The course is offered in the capital city Kathmandu, which is the most secure place in the south asia! The conflict is going on, i must admit, but in the rural parts and that hardly affects a scholar. Moreover, if you are an international law student, who knows, you may end up writing a dissertation on the international law of war crimes !!!! and you may even get paid. There is immense job oppertunity for foreign grads with strong english too. there are hundreds of international organisations e.g. UN and others in kathmandu who require your skills. The cost pf living in Kathmandu is relatively higher that other places in nepal but not higher that any of the places abroad. It will cost you somewhere between 200-300$ per month for accomodation and food as well as transportation. During one month vacation in september, 2 months vacation in november-january and a 15 days vacation in summer, you can even plan an exciting tour to the himalayas or for air sports like para gliding, mountaineering, hiking, bicycling, marathon, sight seeing and many more. As far why in nepal? I finished a llm there and now i am doing a postgraduate course in california. I intend to appear for the californian bar exam in february and believe i learnt a lot from what i studied. The mode of examination in in eglish as well as the instruction, the classes are taught in a seminar method with open discussions between professors, students and resource persons. The exam however may be tough for some given a 4 hour exam with 6 mandatory essay questions to solve. The mandatory course for all LLM in Comparative Jurispurdence and Legal research. You may specialise in any stream among the five mentioned above. The courses offered are world class and incomparable. After you do this LLm you will feel that you have really learnt some philosophy of the law in depth! The city is alive all the time. The party animals can have their best time as well as the casino addicts. The grass is browner rather than greener there but its the best you can get! ( I know, i got your attention here, common a lawyer needs to be near to the nature!). Movie freaks need not worry since world releases are made in 3 theaters in kathmandu so you wont miss a thing. I practised as a barrister in Mauritius for seven years and now I am in the Seychelles and planning to specialise in ICT law to be able to work as a consultant over the African region. Hi any one who are interested to do LL.M. in NepalSun May 14, 2006 11:32 AM Can join in Kathmandu School of Law which offeres LL.M. in threee different field. They are human right, criminal law and business law. And it has recently announced for its enrollment. Hurry up ! Now Nepal's insurgency is almost settled and is completely safe. Another thing, even during when the Maoist coflict was on pick, not a single foreigner or tourist was ever hurt by them. So that all travel advisory and other internet rumers were not only false but also misleading. Have a Good luck Sushil |

Its Criminal Law and Justice is human right based LL.M. program. you will find fair trial and and crminology, juvenile justice in the course. LLB Nepal
Hi,Wed Mar 14, 2007 08:53 PM I was reading through the posts and see that a number of replies come from Nepalis who have a law degree. I'm currently doing a Bachlors in Huamn Rights and law in Canada. I would like to train to be a lawyer and so am looking at my options for an LLB. Do you suggest that I come back to Nepal and do my LLB so that I gain an understanding of the law in Nepal? Is it practical to come back to Nepal with an LLB from outside and work there ? Also how is the LLB course in the Kathmandu School of Law? Is it delivered in both Nepali and English or is that just an option when writting exams? And we're in the subjects if you know scholarhsips particularly to the U.K and Eu fro the international human rights law programs please let me know too. Thank you for your help. Hope all is well in nepal if you're there or where ever you are elsewhere. |
