Mon May 03, 2010 04:58 PM OK, just got my official letter. If you don't mind my asking, where are you from? (as in UK, Europe, US...) .... just to see when I should expect my offer letter :) |

I got the letter today, thankfully. I'm still a bit unclear on the way the funding is broken down though - £7605 for student maintenance, which the guidebook seems to refer to as food, clothes, books etc. How can this work if the £7605 goes directly to the University (or; does it?). Tue May 04, 2010 10:08 AM On a more general point, people who did the LL.M last year, how does the payment of fees work? Is it an upfront payment of £14k at the start of the year, or is it paid in chunks? |

Really? That's interesting. So roughly £6000 (I'm talking home students here) goes the uni, I'm assuming in installments, and the £7k maintenance costs just stays in your bank account?

The tuition and college fees go to the university. The maintenance fee is just an estimate of how much you'll need to support yourself. Basically, they want to see that you can support yourself financially while at Cambridge. You do not have to give that money to anybody, you use it for rent, food, clothes, books etc.

Good to know - my law firm gave me a deferral fee of £7k, so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks guys.Tue May 04, 2010 11:38 AM |

Hello,Tue May 04, 2010 12:02 PM Does anyone know someone who has done the LLM at Cambridge? I understand most subjects in the LLM are assessable by a 100% exam at the end of the year. While I appreciate there will be a lot of reading etc to do throughout the course, is there much else to do, academic work-wise, besides going to lectures and tutorials if applicable? From reading other threads it sounds like most lectures tutorials only take a couple of hours a week for each subject. Cheers! |

Tue May 04, 2010 03:25 PM OK, just got my official letter. Hi LLMBlogger. Kings was also my first choice. My papers were sent there last Tuesday but my Camsis was updated today to say that I was unsuccessful. Clare is my second choice. Hopefully I'll have better luck there! |

I also got my letter of admission today.Tue May 04, 2010 06:23 PM Everhopeful: Check where the letter was sent from. Mine was via my first choice of college. Anyone know how long it will take before the college reaches a decision? I would have thought (by now) most colleges have already decided who they are selecting and are just in the process of updating the online system. |

DhivJ, just to let you know, I called BoGS today to check why my app wasn't sent to King's (my first choice) and they told me the college was full by the time my offer was confirmed (last Tuesday). So it looks like yours was one of the very last files sent there and they had next to no places left to fill. Hope you have better luck at Claire! Tue May 04, 2010 06:41 PM Everhopeful, congrats on getting the letter. Check just below Kate Maxwell's signature. That's where it should say cc: College X [Edited by LLMblogger on 04 May 2010] |

Wed May 05, 2010 07:35 AM hey guys! I am in exactly the same situation! I have not heard anything since that first email from Suzanne Wade. I sent her an e-mail and hope to hear from her soon. Did anyone apply to Magdalene? |

Afrolaw and MKD2010, maybe you should give Ms Wade a call to ask her for the status of your application. It may move things along!

Hello everyone,Wed May 05, 2010 09:43 AM I received an offer in March and until now neither have I received the official letter nor has my Camsis been updated. I'm a bit worried about that and considering calling Ms. Wade. Please keep me posted with your progress. Btw, I'm from Vietnam. Is anybody else from Asia admitted this year? |

Dear all,Wed May 05, 2010 10:47 AM I also have received an informal offer letter on Jan 6th and not heard anything ever since. This morning, however, I called Ms Wade, hoping she could shed some light on the Camsis update procedure. Banal as it is, all those who have received an informal letter should stop worrying about the update, because you will be offered a place. Obviously, the later the update, the less likely one is to get into his/her college of choice, given that they are filling up quickly. I applied to Trinity and St. John's and, to my knowledge, the second is full already, while the first still have a good amount of places left. Apparently the will start considering applications as of this week. Anyone from Italy, by the way? --- |
