LLM Queries
Hi, Can someone help me with these questions. I am in my final year of LLB in India. I would like to do an LLM in Intellectual Property Law. I have some doubts about where to go & which universities are good. I have 3 possible countries on mind which are USA,UK & Australia. In Australia I have looked at all universities that offer LLM in IP Law & I have narrowed down on Monash University, Australian National University & University Of Queensland. In UK I have interest in University Of Aberdeen & Bournemouth University. All the above mentioned universities have as pretty interesting curriculam & all of them have spring intakes. One particular university that interests me the most is University of Aberdeen but that is in Scotland. Let me ask a few questions so that I can clear my boubts & be sure as to where I would be studying. Someone please look into these queries & kindly answer them:Thu Oct 06, 2005 03:19 PM 1. How is it living in USA. 2. What are my chances of getting an employment there after I finish LLM? (This is because I do not want to return to India immediately after finishing LLM because it costs me a fortune to just finish my study in USA). 3. Is it ok to work part time while studying in USA? 4. We are allowed to sit for bar exam in 10 different states after finishing LLM in US? Is this statement true? 5. Which place do you feel I should be going (USA, UK & Australia) ? Also can someone suggest a good university in USA that offers LLM in IP Law that starts in spring. The cost of education in US is very high. so if someone can suggest some good universities in US that offer qualiy education for cheap (I mean with a tuition fees around $20,000 for the whole year). I shall be really grateful to whoever answers my queries.I need to take a decision as to which country should I go for an LLM in IP Law. Thanks in anticipation. |

im also from india (punjab)Sun Sep 24, 2006 08:46 AM im applying for 2007-8 batch well as to ur questions 1. How is it living in USA. a good flat costs ard 400 to 700 $ , n total food expenses if u cook at home are 300 $.. u can cut down by sharing with frds. if u have money life rocks, n without money you have nothing but to stare at people partying. 2. What are my chances of getting an employment there after I finish LLM? (This is because I do not want to return to India immediately after finishing LLM because it costs me a fortune to just finish my study in USA). to evry indian $ 50,000 is a hell lot money. if finances is probs go for South hampton university UK ,, it will cost you only 6 lakh for whole project ,,, tats it. employment after llm is very competitive,,, as compared to after jd,,, if u have calliber of going for LSAT then try it. but even spending 500,00 $ is not a bad deal if u can arrange for ur stay . but on f1 visa , what the hell can u do in 1 year ,,, if u can stay there for at least 1 or 2 years more ,, then it is for sure that u can get minnimum of 50000 $ per year as paralegal 3. Is it ok to work part time while studying in USA? no llm for 9 mts n 24 credits needs a lots of work ... my senior who did llm frm boston told me he used to study minimum 5 hrs / day. n it took his 35 laks to complete llm (hard fact of life is tat he is back home) 4. We are allowed to sit for bar exam in 10 different states after finishing LLM in US? Is this statement true? i know tat for new york n california u can do so ..... i have little info on this so plz provide me also with same when u come to know 5. Which place do you feel I should be going (USA, UK & Australia) ? usa is theeeeeeee best,,, from employment perspective,,, uk for tuition + employment purposes,, n australia for getting an easier pr,,,,( need of indians) but not good for edu espest bro no tution is less than 25000 - 35000 $ n good unis which have some chances of employment like harvard, nyu, columbia,gw costs 70000$ for whole |

LLM Queries
Thanks for a reply jagz, I did post these queries in Oct of 2005, I did contemplate a lot on where to go for an LLM & it took me well over 8 months to come up with the options. I dropped out the idea of heading to US for an LLM cos it's way too expensive, I have decided to apply to the UK univs cos they are affordable when compared to the universities in US. I would start off the applications soon, by the way I am applying for the Jan'07 intake now. Hope you are going to the US then. Good luck Jagz. By the way I am from Hyderabad. And yes I forgot to add, The states that allow foreign LLM grads to take the bar exam are: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Michigan, New Hampshire, Newyork, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Tennessee & Virginia.
