Yale : only for careers in law teaching ?

According to their website, "The Master of Laws (LL.M.) program at Yale Law School is a one-year course of study intended for students committed to careers in law teaching and scholarship."

Since I am planning to work in a law firm after the LLM (notably in M&A), I don't know if it's worth applying. Do you know if they admit students with my profile ?
Thanks !

Hello,

No, if you don't state in your application very clearly that you intend to become a Professor, and that your background does not reflect such an intent, you have no chance.

This being said, no reason to be disappointed as the program would not interest you if you intend to become a corporate & governance lawyer. All classes are theoretical and focused on public policy issues rather than intended for practitionners.

Hope this was useful.

Yale has a primary focus on law teaching though a number of LLM's go on to take up firm jobs. The Yale brandname does help.

However Columbia, NYU and even Harvard have mor exerience placing LLMS since they have more. Also, most of the Yale fundign is conditional on your teaching for two years or continuing with the JSD

I was wondering if Yale people went on to work for international organisations, like the UN, after the LLM...

Anthonia, Yale Law School has a program called the MSL which is usually open for those who have advanced degrees in other subjects and want an exposure to law. The present MSL scholar at Yale has a doctorate in economica nd works on Law and Econ.
