LLM in ADR?
Hey there,Thu Nov 24, 2005 05:05 PM has anyone here done an LLM with a specialization in ADR/ or arbitration? I've looked at the rankings and the universities which offer such programs, but I would like some 'inside' info if possible. Any infos on Pepperdine, Hamline, Minnesota or any other law school which is supposed to have a good program in that area? Thank you very much, Anne |

Anne, the only specialization I’ve had with ADR is a recent Family and Divorce Disputes Workshop I took with Professor Benjamin Roberts (www.rbenjamin.com). He’s with Pepperdine University School. Unfortunately that’s the only inside info I have…which doesn’t really answer your question. However, the workshop was really good. In the process I got a certificate (as well as an A). Became better at negotiating…Started using more open-ended questions etc. It’s been no turning back since. Fri Nov 25, 2005 12:30 AM What I will say though is for you to weigh your options. Compare the LLM vs. Certificate in ADR. Both offer different things, it all depends on what your goals are. In the meantime, the ABA has a directory of Law School Dispute Resolution Courses and Programs. You can get that info here. www.abanet.org/dispute/directory.html or www.law.uoregon.edu/aba/ My IM is omobabe@msn.com |

Thank you, arnauld and bardiva.Fri Nov 25, 2005 08:47 PM I defintely want to do an LL.M, if possible with a concentration in ADR. So far I was leaning more towards business disputes, but a class or two in Family and Divorce Disputes might be interesting, too. Thanks for the ABA link, I'll look into that, too. |

Maybe, you can check University of Mossouri at Columbia regarding LL.M. in ADR. Their ranking of J.D. is not so high but has such a special LL.M. program.Thu Dec 08, 2005 05:58 AM Thank you, arnauld and bardiva. |

Thank you! I looked at University of Missouri at Columbia, but I don't think I want to go there, location-wise.

Pepperdine University in Malibu has a LL.M ADR program that is supposed to be pretty good. The J.D. program is not highly ranked, but I have heard nothing but good things about the LL.M. program.

Thanks for your input. I still haven't made up my mind, so this is very helpful. Right now I'm thinking again about getting a general LL.M. at a higher ranked school because that's what seems to count more for employers here.Thu Mar 02, 2006 08:39 PM In the end I suppose I'll apply to both kinds of programs and then decide based on admissions. |
