Hey people, just wanted to pick a few of your brains about the BCL course at Oxford. I am, at present, writing the personal statement part of the application, but am unsure what to include in it to make it stand out. Any ideas? Fri Nov 25, 2005 02:19 PM Cheers, Jim |

Too vague I would say. What is your background, what have you done, where are you planning to go, etc. Then people will be able to offer advice.

I don't think they really look much at the personal statement here, it is more a matter of your credentials, esp. academic. Don't try to be too original.

Cheers for your help guys, I've been ill so haven't been able to get online to thank you both before now. The main difficulty I am having is finding the right style. All the websites I have found on law school personal statements have been American, and have insisted on dramatising the statement. Is this style really suitable for Oxford?

Yes I had similarly been wondering what to put in the personal statement. Any suggestions gratefully received.

I agree with Zelda and we are both at Oxford now. I really think that academic credentials are the most important bit. Your personal statement might help you get into the college of your choice but it might not.
