Take a look at Austin, Texas and UW-Madison. They are cheaper. But in the case of Madison, this is bound to a research-only degree. Some public university law schools offer less than private schools. But top public university law schools like Michigan, UC-Berkeley and Virginia ask you to pay almost same prive with private university law schools. You need to consider around US$25,000 through US$28,000 for tuition if you think about some top notch schools among Top25 through 35 level institutions like University of Minnesota(Twin City), University of Illinois(Urbana-Champaign), University of Washington(Seattle), UCLA, UC-Davis, Indiana(Bloomington) and Wisconsin(Madison). Only Texas(Austin), perhaps supported by good Texan Oil Money, can offer much less tuition than other top notch public law schools' LL.M. In addition to tuition, you should think about living cost. You may enjoy less living cost if you go to college towns like Urbana-Champaign(Illinois), Davis(UC-Davis), Bloomington(Indiana), Madison(Wisconsin) and Charlottsvile(Virginia). On the other hand, unfortunately Ann-Arbor(Michigan) is too close by Detroit. The situation of Berkley(UC-Berkeley) is the same in Bay Area of San Francisco, where the living cost is counted in the highest level of U.S. Minneapolis-St. Paul(Minnesota), Seattle(Washington) and Los Angeles(UCLA) and Texas(Austin) are also in urban areas with a little higher livign cost. However, the coures-based program is MLI (Master of Legal Institution) which is exactly as same as LL.M. of other University's LL.M. It is also approved by ABA and is elegible for taking NY bar exam. I am also interested in doing an LLM in USA next year, with my husband, but we can´t afford to pay two LLM´s, so we were considering other options: maybe I could do an internship, post graduate courses, etc. Nevertheless, I have been researching and someone told me that Financial Aid could by an interesting option (for example, if the both of us pay a 1 1/2 tuition, or something like that.) Someone else also told me about the tuition waiver, and about some institutions to which you pay (about US$ 3,000) and they get you accepted in one of the universities you want, and also get you the tuition waiver... have you heard about that? do you have any idea of other options? (ii) Although please note that employment perspectives of an LL.M. graduate (even of the most demanding law schools) at times (to put it mildly) are not quite bright and now, in the very midst of a recession, seems to be even more dismal and you have to take into consideration the way a future hiring partner will evaluate your qualifications. (iii) It's quite a rule of thumb – the more higher a school's place in ranking the bigger are chances that its scholarships' and subsidized loans' program for LL.M. students is more comprehensive. Thus, sometimes it's cheaper to attend a more prestigious school. With respect to your second query my answer is rather simple – except for very limited circumstances it's forbidden for an F-1 holder (student type visa) to work while pursuing his/her course of studies. And finally regarding your last question, I can't help you here, for I'm yet to embark on my LL.M… :) Good Luck!!! In addition, in order to be issued such a visa, you need to provide an American Embassy with an I-20 form issued by a school where you have been admitted, such issuance will be possible only after you have provided to your school a proof that you have sufficient funds for the entire course of studies. U.F., one of the most respected, is a state school. Ergo, you get to reap the benefits of the Florida taxpayers even if you aren't a resident per their statutes. Out of state tuition is attractive, in state is down right gorgeous. B.U. is about $7g a year less than Northwestern / NYU / Georgetown. I've seen most top programs around $40g. $25 sounds pretty good to me with seat deposits coming due... -M
