Stanford - Admissions thread
Mon Mar 28, 2011 05:32 PM I am also waiting for an answer from SLS. An LLM has much less 'power' than a JD, but it's apples and oranges as you aren't really competing in the same circles. Most LLM students already have their articling etc. done, so the degree is more to have a specific area of expertise than the general knowledge of the law that a JD provides. That being said, some UK paper put together a list of the most reputable schools in the world and Stanford was no. 4 (don't ask me how the ranked) so it's not like a degree from Stanford - specifically an LLM - will hurt! In the US I think Columbia and NYU have slightly better reputations, only because of their access to the NYC firms, but I'm sure there are two or three dozen people in this forum who would disagree! At the end of the day, it's just another name on your CV. If the rest of that A4 paper isn't very good, Stanford isn't going to save you - you can't shine a turd, as they say. At least that's how I see it, but what do I know, right? |

Do you have any idea of the number of applicants to the IELBP program for this year? and/or how many applicants are expected to be admitted this year? I read the admitted students for the last year were around 15, but I am not sure whether this also applies for this year. Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:24 PM Many thanks! |

Hahah this means that we have all so extraordinary credentials that we're giving them some hard time to decide ;)

I checked the confirmation e-mail which SLS submitted to me and I quote:Wed Mar 30, 2011 03:06 PM "Your Stanford Law advanced degree application is now complete. Most admissions decisions will be announced by April 1, 2011." In other words, NOT ALL decisions will be announced this week ... |

I agree with lilijane! And, unfortunately, I don't think that the waiting will be over by the weekend.

Actually some of them were announced (e.g. some people already got admitted to other tracks).Wed Mar 30, 2011 03:15 PM I also don't agree necessarily with "not all decisions will be announced this week" thing since I believe that the reason they use "most admissions decisions (...)" is only to not to oblige themselves to a certain deadline just in case. |

I agree with both of you..last year IELBP was the last one to be announced; however they are already one week late compared to last year..maybe there are more applications this year...

Thu Mar 31, 2011 01:13 AM I called them and I was told they have not made any decision yet for the IELBP. They called me yesterday to ask if I was still interested in Stanford, and if I had any questions about the course...I didn't understand it. |

Then do you mind sharing your reply to their questions, e.g., your interest in SLS?

They called me yesterday asking the same question. It is strange because the call lasted around 1 minute.
