Entry requirements:

Applicants should have a good single Honours degree in Law or a Joint Honours degree with Law as the Major component. Applicants who do not meet the standard entry requirements but have relevant professional and personal experience and the potential to achieve the academic standard are also encouraged to apply.

Those who have successfully completed the Legal Practice Course or Bar Vocational Course may be credited with having completed six modules and will be eligible for the Law LLM Degree, on passing the Research Methodology and Dissertation modules.

Assessment:

The course has a mixture of assessment involving essays, reports on seminars and oral presentations. The emphasis is on assessment by coursework and in the final Dissertation.

Course aims

This course will develop analytical, evaluative and research skills and provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the tensions that exist in the contemporary domestic and international legal framework. Students will benefit from a dedicated team of lecturers who have commercial and professional law backgrounds, as well as substantial teaching experience on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Course content

To be awarded the Law LLM Degree, students must successfully complete six modules followed by a Dissertation, including a short course on Research Methods. Students who only wish to complete three modules will be entitled to claim the award of Postgraduate Certificate and those who only wish to complete the six taught modules of the course will be entitled to claim the award of Postgraduate Diploma.

Students study three modules in each semester. This is followed by the Dissertation period of 18 weeks. As this award is part of the Postgraduate Modular Scheme, it may also be possible for candidates to take an elective module offered by another award.
