Teaching and Assessment

Teaching and assessment consists of a one-day workshop involving instruction on research methods, including the use of electronic resources, preparation of a dissertation proposal and structure and technique.

Students are then assigned an individual supervisor and are entitled to up to six hours of personal guidance, which you may use whenever mutually convenient during the year.

Assessment will be by examination of the written dissertation of 25,000 words which will count for 80 per cent of the final marks, and a one-hour oral presentation to internal and external examiners on the research findings comprising 20 per cent of the marks.

The record of research progress must also satisfy assessment criteria.
Students who reach a combined mark of 40 per cent or more will be entitled to the LLM award. Distinctions will be awarded for a combined mark of 70 per cent or more.

Other Information

The LLM is recognised by the Law Society for Continuing Professional Development purposes. Further details are available on request.
