Master of Laws (LL.M.) and
Doctor of Philosophy in Law (Ph.D.)

The University of Victoria LL.M./Ph.D. program provides an opportunity for advanced research at the intersection of “Law and Society”. It is rigorously interdisciplinary both in its coursework and research components. Students are encouraged to have at least two supervisors, one from the Faculty of Law and one from another Faculty.

Students form part of a vigorous and dynamic research community made up of fine scholars across a range of disciplines. The students themselves form a cohesive group of junior researchers, encouraged to make their own lasting contribution to the discipline.

The Program is especially appropriate for students interested in any of five areas of concentration:

      • Aboriginal rights;
      • Environmental law and policy;
      • Legal theory (including feminist and critical legal theory);
      • Legal History; and,
      • Public Law (including comparative constitutional law)

Students in other areas may also be admitted if supervisory resources exist.
