"We have jobs do you have specialists ?" is the question which companies often ask the University. MBL was created as a reply to this ever more insistent demand.
Companies, the public sector and even the bench show a growing need for lawyers with special education in business law. A schooling founded on high standard academic requirements and an adequate period of professional training seemed to be the best answer to such need. In other words, the study and the application of those legal topics both essential and specific to businesses.
To implement said idea the faculty of law of the University of Lausanne and of the University of Geneva, with the fundamental support of the Bar Association of the cantons of Geneva and Lausanne, created a master of advanced studies in business law (MBL).
The postgraduate formation commences with a purely academic year during which courses are complemented with seminars on specific interdisciplinary subjects. Follows a training period of approximately one year as a lawyer in a company or a business orientated public office. During this second year, the candidate is called upon to write a paper related to the experience acquired.
The courses are given not only by professors of the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne but also by practitioners specialised in the different areas. The entire faculty of teachers has professional experience in business law.
From the outset the diploma was created with the assistance of renowned businesses. An advisory committee, of which the latter are members, guarantees continuous interactivity between the businesses and the committee charged with the proper operation of the MBL. Indeed, one could never be sufficiently grateful toward those partners who also welcome trainees and provide financial support without which the programme could not exist.
