Eligibility for Admission

For the admission to the LLM. Degree Course , a candidate shall have secured the LL.B. Degree from a recognized University having obtained not less than 50% marks in the aggregate out of the maximum marks prescribed.

Applying for the Course

Application forms can be obtained from the Registrar's Office by sending a Demand Draft for Rs. 300/- (Rupees Three Hundred only) drawn on any Nationalized Bank payable to the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata.

Eligible candidates desirous of getting admission to LLM. Degree Course shall apply in the prescribed from within the last date that has been stipulated in the admission form.

Selection of Candidates

Candidates for LLM. Course shall be selected on the basis of a combined assessment of:

On the basis of the above, applicants will be short-listed for initial selection. Such candidates shall then be called for an interview on the basis of which the final selection shall be made.

Course Structure and Dissertation

The LLM. Programme extends to 2 academic years. It comprises of three compulsory courses, six optional courses and a dissertation, spread over four semesters.

First Semester:

In the first semester, all LLM. students shall be offered three compulsory courses:

Second and Third Semesters:

In each of the second and third Semesters, students shall have one compulsory courses and two optional courses respectively. These shall be identified each you by the Post Graduate Council in consultation with the faculty. Students may make their suggestions regarding their choice of the subjects, to the Council, which shall be given due consideration.

Fourth Semester:

The fourth Semester shall be devoted to preparing a thesis on an approved topic.

He shall also be undertaking independent teaching assignment on select modules. On completion of the same, the student shall obtain a certificate from the teacher whom he has assisted in teaching.

Evaluation System

Each of the Courses in the first, second and third Semesters shall carry a maximum of 100 marks and the dissertation shall carry a maximum of 200 marks with ten credits. The distribution of marks in each of the Courses, shall be as follows:

Total Marks in each Subject = 100
Written examination in each subject = 70
Three seminar presentations = 30

Explanation of Seminar Presentation Marks

At the beginning of each Semester, the postgraduate Council shall announce the distribution of marks for the Seminar Courses.

Promotion Scheme

Promotion from one Semester to the other shall be automatic irrespective of the fact whether the candidate has passed in the Course completed or not.

No candidate shall, however, be allowed to submit the dissertation, at the end of the fourth Semester, unless he/she has passed in all the courses and had satisfactorily completed all the prescribed assignments.

In order to be declared successful in any course / Dissertation, a candidate shall sincere at least B grade. Those who secure C grade shall be deemed to have failed.

Attendance

No student shall be permitted to take an Examination, in a given Course, unless he/she has fulfilled all the Course requirements, to the satisfaction of the teacher concerned, and has secured not less than 75% of attendance in the class and tin the related course work assignments for the particular course.

Re-examination

Students who fail to appear for an Examination in a Course or fail to obtain at least 'B' grade, shall have to take the Examination again in the concerned Course, including presentation of two fresh Seminars, in the corresponding Semester.

If a student secures 'C' grade in his/her dissertation, he shall have to submit a Revised Version of the dissertation on or before such time as the Post Graduation Council decides.

Award of Degree

A student shall be awarded a LLM. Degree, only when he has completed all the prescribed Courses and the Dissertation, having secured the minimum grade of 'B', and has also obtained an average grade point of 3.00 and above, out of total 7.00.
