Graduate Programs

The Department offers three programs at the graduate level:

  1. Master of Arts (M.A.) in Criminology

    This program is designed for students who wish to pursue studies at the Ph.D. level, or who are seeking careers in research or policy areas related to the criminal justice system. It requires a year of full-time study, including the preparation of a Masters' thesis.

  2. Master of Criminology (Applied) (M.C.A.)

    This program is designed for students who will pursue careers in correctional services and the administration of justice, or in fields related to justice based interventions at the individual, community or social level. It requires four consecutive sessions of full-time study, including a field placement and a major research paper.

  3. Ph.D. in Criminology

    The Department of Criminology offers a program leading to the PhD in Criminology with a particular focus on the creation and reform of criminal justice policies in Canada. The program is offered in English and in French.

Documents to be submitted by the Candidates

  • Application Submission Summary Sheet
  • One official transcript of all postsecondary studies
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A Resume
  • A letter of intent
  • Proof of Language Proficiency in the case of applicants whose first language in neither english or french
  • A brief description (one or two pages) of the proposed research project (for PhD only)
