Taught Study (LLM) Opportunities

These pages will tell you a little more about what makes our LLM degrees so special - including information on student life, fees and finances, and details of how to apply (including entry requirements).

Durham, its Staff and its Students

Our taught LLM degrees involve a year's study in the mediaeval centre of Durham, alongside other highly committed students, being taught by our excellent and friendly staff. The academic year runs from October to September.

Our LLMs are very cosmopolitan degrees, with current students from all corners of the globe! Prospective international students should have a look at the pages of the Durham International Students Association to gain an impression of the great time you can have studying here. Also, for life after graduation, why not take a look at our list of international alumni associations for details of Durham University alumni near you?

Specialist Teaching

Our LLMs focus on the School's research specialities, so students are taught by leading experts in the field. Why not take a look at the Institute of Commercial and Corporate Law and Durham European Law Institute, for some specific examples of our world-leading research?

We offer three main degrees:

  • LLM International Trade and Commercial Law
  • LLM European Trade and Commercial Law
  • LLM Master of Laws (the general LLM, with modules from both specialisms)

You can see more information on the modules available under each degree by looking at our course of study pages.

As well as taught classes, each student will undertake a research dissertation on a topic of their choosing under the supervision of one of our academic staff. This allows you to gain specialist knowledge and to develop a working relationship with active researchers in the School.

Language Support at Durham

If English is not your first language then both before and during your time at Durham there is excellent language support available, provided by Durham University Language Centre.

Meet us in Person

If you want to meet us in person please come to one of the Recruitment Fairs in Durham or around the UK, or if you are a prospective international student look out for a visit from a Durham member of staff to your country.
