The School of Law at the University of Surrey offers an exciting range of LLM programmes which draw on our excellent reputation for internationally recognised research and high quality teaching.

Typical entry requirements
Applicants should normally possess a good first degree (first or second class or equivalent) awarded by a UK university or recognised overseas institution. In exceptional cases, students with relevant practical experience but no first degree may also be admitted. In addition, students whose first language is not English will be expected to have achieved a minimum of IELTS 6.5.

LLM/ Postgraduate Diploma/ Postgraduate Certificate Law
This general programme will enable you to understand and evaluate key conceptual debates in law and the role of law in its socio-legal and political context. It gives you the flexibility to select four modules from any of those available on the specialist programmes (see module lists below). In addition, students taking the LLM programme will complete a dissertation in a topic of particular interest.
LLM/ Postgraduate Diploma/ Postgraduate Certificate European Law
This programme will enable you to understand and evaluate contemporary debates in the study of European public law, concerning the relationship between the European and national levels, institutional structures and how the substantive law regulates the relationship between the individual and state. You will gain a critical appreciation of the law and policy of EC external trade as well as knowledge of the regulatory frameworks which impact upon environmental and employment policy.
All Students take four optional modules, at least two of which must be chosen from the European Law module list. You may choose to study up to two modules from other subject areas within Law. In addition, students taking the LLM programme will complete a dissertation in a topic related to European Law.

LLM/ Postgraduate Diploma/ Postgraduate Certificate International Law
This programme will enable you to understand and evaluate contemporary debates in the study of public international law, concerning the international system and global dispute resolution with particular reference to international criminal law. You will deepen your knowledge of international trade and the regulation of private international law.
All Students take four optional modules, at least two of which must be chosen from the International Law module list. You may choose to study up to two modules from other subject areas within Law. In addition, students taking the LLM programme will complete a dissertation in a topic related to International Law.
International Law Modules Include:

LLM/ Postgraduate Diploma/ Postgraduate Certificate Justice
This programme will enable you to understand and evaluate contemporary debates in the study of justice in its varying forms. You will learn to critically consider criminal justice in both a national and international setting and will deepen your knowledge of theoretical aspects of the study of justice and of the particular issues concerning justice in the environment of the family, civil and in administrative law.
All Students take four optional modules, at least two of which must be chosen from the Justice module list. You may choose to study up to two modules from other subject areas within Law. In addition, students taking the LLM programme will complete a dissertation in a topic related to Justice.

A Masters degree in Law is regarded as a highly-valued, prestigious academic qualification which will enhance your career prospects. A degree specialising in particular areas or aspects of Law will, provide you with the competitive edge necessary for entry into a professional legal career. For those who wish to develop the research experience to undertake higher research degrees a Masters degree is also an excellent foundation.
Excellent location
The University is located on a single campus landscaped site on the outskirts of Guildford . All the key facilities are within a few minutes' walk. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, the lively yet historic market town of Guildford is ideally situated just 9 miles from the M25, 40 minutes by train from London Waterloo, and with quick access to both Heathrow and Gatwick airports by road, rail or bus. Guildford offers an excellent variety of leisure, cultural and shopping facilities and is just a ten-minute walk from campus.
Getting to the University
London is only 40 minutes away by train and its major airports of Heathrow and Gatwick are both within easy reach giving ready access from all over the world. The UK motorway network (M25, M3, M4, M40, etc.) is within easy access via the A3 trunk road.
By road
Guildford is 29 miles southwest of London , on the A3London-Portsmouth road. Follow the signs for the University and/or Guildford Cathedral and at the Cathedral roundabout take the University exit.
By rail
Guildford is on the main line between London Waterloo and Portsmouth . Half-hourly train services run from Guildford to Waterloo , with journey times of approximately 40 minutes, giving immediate access to the extensive cultural and entertainment facilities of the capital.
By Eurostar
London Waterloo is the terminus for the Eurostar service to/from Paris and Brussels .
By air
