1. Introduction

To keep up with the global trend, provide an opportunity for on-the job law professionals to deepen their knowledge, and broaden up the integration between law and professionals from other fields, the Master of Law Program was established in 2003 with the approval of the Ministry of Education and started to admit 30 students including on-the-job professionals with law majors and non-majors in 2003 to pursue a master degree in law. On March 12th, 2004, the institute was allowed to set up Class B to admit 30 on-the-job professionals with law majors to study. And the Class of 2003 changed its name into Class A. Ever since 2005, Class A has been for on-the-job law majors and Class B for non-majors. The number of current students is more than two hundred. The students are elites from various backgrounds which range from judges, lawyers, accountants, engineers, government officials, to private business employees.

2. Characteristics

2.1 Faculty
With the strong support from the College of Law from NCCU, our program has the best faculty who can provide the students with up-to-date professional knowledge and also invites well-known professors from other schools to lecture.

2.2 Convenient Transportation
The institute has all its courses conducted at the Center for Public and Business Administration Education, which is easily accessible for the students.

2.3 Flexible Course Offering
Any course can be offered under the demand of the students. As long as 20 students file the request for a specific course, the program will invite professors with related expertise from NCCU or other schools to conduct the class.

2.4 Convenient Information
The institute has the most complete on-line databases such as Law Bank, Root Law, Law and Regulations of China, Lexis-Nexis, beck-online, Die Databank, Westlaw, Law.com, Practice Center, which are extremely convenient for the students to search for data needed for research, and beneficial to their thesis or paper writing.

2.5 Systems of Tutoring and Lecturing
A lecturer can assign a tutor for the class if the course is taken by more than 25 students to help and instruct the students with any questions or problems concerning the course, paper writing, and data collecting. Any lecturer can invite professionals or scholars from other schools or other fields to deliver lectures twice a semester. The lecturer has to attend the lecture as well to provide the students with opportunities to get exposed to legal practice or different perspectives.

2.6 Other Academic Resources
In addition to all the academic events held by the College of Law, the students of the program can also take part in most of the academic conferences held by the Center for Public and Business Administration Education.

3. Qualifications for Admission

3.1 Qualifications for Class A and Subjects for Examination

3.1.1 Specific Qualifications for Admission
All of the applicants have to be on-the-job professionals.

(1) College law major (double majors included) graduates with at least six years of working experience (military service included)

(2) People who have passed the Special Examination of Judges at the 3rd Level, or the Bar Examination with at least six years of working experience

(3) College law major graduates (double majors included) with a master degree and at least four years of working experience (military service included)

(4) College law major graduates (double majors included) with a doctoral degree and at least two years of working experience (military service included)

3.1.2 Subjects for Entrance Examination

The top 50 applicants (who outscore the other students on the written test (English excluded) and the materials reviewed) will be allowed to take the oral test.

3.1.3 Tuition and Qualifications for Graduation
(1) tuition: 12, 518 /per term
(2) fee: 6,000/per credit
(3) credits for graduation: 36 credits
(4) studying length: 2-4 years

Evenings from Monday to Friday (the actual time is based on the schedules set by the lecturer of the course)

3.2 Qualifications for Class B and Subjects for Entrance Examination

3.2.1 Specific Qualifications for Admission
All of the applicants have to be on-the-job professionals.

(1) College graduates with majors other than law and at least six years of working experience (military service included)

(2) People who have a master degree whose undergraduate major is not law and at least four years of working experience (military service included)

(3) People who have a doctoral degree whose undergraduate major is not law and at least two years of working experience (military service included)

(4) People who have undergraduate double majors in law or a master degree in law or have passed the Special Examination of Judges at the 3rd Level, or the Bar Examination are not allowed to apply for Class B.

4. Scholarship


The top three students of Class A and Class B in the first and second grades will be awarded a scholarship with 15,000 dollars.

5. Future Development and Prospect

With the best conditions of timing, location, and human resources, the institute has a sound launch. We not only continue the instruction of fundamental courses but also supply the students with opportunities to conduct interdisciplinary integration. The institute also cooperates with the Center for Public and Business Administration Education in organizing a program for Government Purchase Law. Hopefully, there will be further cooperation between the two.
We will keep holding lecture courses planned as before to broaden up the vision of the students, to come into contact with legal practice in a variety of fields, such as law and engineering, law and life science, law and finance.
On the other hand, we expect to establish a long-term relationship with relevant programs of foreign schools to achieve the objective of internationalizing the institute.
