The University

University College London, commonly known as UCL, is one of the colleges that make up the University of London. There are almost 25,000 staff and students at UCL, making the college larger than most universities in the United Kingdom. It is also one of the oldest higher education institutions in the UK and a member of the Russell Group of Universities. Within the Russell Group it is part of the 'G5' sub-group of 'super-elite' universities, along with Oxford, Cambridge, LSE and Imperial. UCL consistently ranks among the top 5 universities in the UK league tables.
The Law School
The Faculty of Laws at Bentham House, in Endsleigh Gardens, is only a few minutes' walk from the main UCL law library and campus. The facilities at Bentham House include many teaching rooms, a courtroom for moots, a spacious student lounge, a coffee bar and two computer cluster room. For graduate students and senior academic visitors, the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, with its superb research library and seminar rooms, is a short walk away in Russell Square. The Department of Laws at UCL is recognised as one of the top research departments of law in the United Kingdom, rated in the highest category in the UK for both research (5*A) and teaching (excellent).
The Program
The LLM offers a wide range of courses, with teaching provided not only by the Faculty’s full-time members of staff, but also by distinguished Visiting Professors, Honorary Professors and other part-time visiting teachers, drawn from leading experts working in private practice, in government departments and other national and international organisations and institutions.
Location

London is the largest city in the European Union. The estimated population of Greater London on 1 January 2005 was 7,421,328 and a metropolitan area population of over 12.5 million inhabitants. London's population includes a very diverse range of peoples, cultures, and religions, making it one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Europe, and the world. London is the home of many global institutions, organisations and companies, and as such retains a leading role in global affairs. It has a great number of important buildings, including world-famous museums, theatres, concert halls, airports, railway stations, palaces, and offices. It is also the location of many foreign embassies, consulates and High Commissions.
UCL's law school is located in central London, on Gower Street in Bloomsbury. The nearest stations on the London Underground are Euston, Euston Square, and Warren Street.
Student Life

London is home to more students than any other city in the country, and UCL's central location in the university quarter means that there are plenty of facilities catering for students. Numerous Student Union bars, cafes and restaurants provide refreshment and entertainment at similar prices to those found in universities throughout the country. Student Union membership cards will get discounts on cinema and theatre tickets and other entertainments.
The UCL Union includes some 140 active clubs and societies which organise budget-priced social events througout the year and UCL even has its own theatre, the Bloomsbury. The Union supports clubs for most major sports and a host of specialist interest ones. The sports ground at Shenley in Hertfordshire has high quality pitches and courts for outside and team sports and coach transport is organised from UCL.
