Golden Gate University (GGU)

The University

Gate University was founded in 1901 as the YMCA Evening Law School to give working adults and others the opportunity to pursue a law degree who might otherwise have lacked the opportunity. In addition to the School of Law, Golden Gate University includes the Ageno School of Business, the School of Taxation, and the School of Accounting. The University emphasizes practical skills training and real-world experience in all of its programs and, since its founding, has been committed to enhancing diversity, access, innovation, and opportunity.

The Law School

Golden Gate University School of Law is located in the heart of downtown San Francisco, with easy access to the courts and unparalleled networking opportunities through our vast array of alumni practicing at nearby law firms and serving on the bench.

Our downtown facility includes recently remodeled classrooms, a state-of-the-art law library, a Moot Court Room, and access to other university facilities, including a Student Services Center. Students enrolled in one of our five LLM programs may specialize in a particular area of study or take US bar preparation classes. Our full-time faculty members are experienced teachers with strong practice, research, and academic credentials. Students also benefit from classes taught by our adjunct faculty, many of whom bring their experience as local practitioners to the classroom. While admission is selective, merit scholarships are available, and our Graduate Law Program staff members work closely with students to accommodate their individual needs both during the admission process and throughout their time in the program.

The Faculty

The School of Law includes 41 full-time and 165 adjunct faculty members with outstanding professional experience in legal practice, in the judiciary, in business, and other areas. They include members of the state and federal benches; governmental and nongovernmental organizations, small and multinational law firms; and major corporations.
