The Law School

At Denver Law, we balance academics with the outside world, and help you focus on things that matter to you: your career, your future, your life in law. Denver Law opened its doors in 1892, and has been breaking ground in legal education ever since. Our faculty pride themselves in training students for successful careers as legal practitioners by offering a variety of challenging and exciting courses in addition to experiential learning opportunities. With our location at the foot of the Colorado Rockies, you can live, work, and play in one of the most beautiful areas of the world.

Denver Law is a top 100 United States law school with nationally ranked programs in international law, environmental and natural resources law, legal writing, clinical training and tax law. Our curriculum is innovative and global in its perspective. Upon graduation, our students are equipped with the skills necessary to provide immediate and valuable contributions to the legal community.

We were featured by the National Jurist as one of the 20 most innovative law schools in the country (www.nationaljurist.com/content/most-innovative-law-schools-a… ) . Additionally, we were one of three schools noted by U.S. News & World Report in a feature article on the importance of experiential learning opportunities in choosing a law school.

The result of a dynamic partnership between Denver Law and the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (IAALS), Educating Tomorrow's Lawyers (ETL) is a program dedicated to changing the way law schools educate students. "Our goal is to help law schools graduate more practice-ready lawyers who can better meet the needs of an evolving profession," says law school Dean Martin J. Katz. "To accomplish this goal, we have provided a platform to facilitate and measure innovation in law teaching designed to integrate doctrine, skills, and professional identity." ETL is building a national consortium of law schools committed to education in the spirit of the Carnegie Model. The consortium serves as a resource and forum for the exchange, dissemination, implementation and assessment of reform.

The Program

The University of Denver Sturm College of Law Roche LLM in International Business Transactions (IBT LLM) leverages the strengths of Denver Law's nationally ranked International Legal Studies Program and our emerging Corporate and Commercial Law Program as well as the University of Denver's ranked graduate schools of business and international studies to deliver a comprehensive, internationally-relevant business transactions law degree. The program produces practice-ready graduates with a strong grasp of international transactional law and business gained through an extensive curriculum in the areas of trade, commercial arbitration and dispute resolution, international intellectual property, banking, investment and finance. The flexibility of the program, along with a broad variety of course offerings, allows students to tailor this degree to their specific interests and career goals.

In the United States there are more than 230 LLM programs in 33 different practice areas, spread across 200 law schools. However, surprisingly very few programs are concentrated on private transactional work. The Roche IBT LLM is the only one of its kind in the Rocky Mountain region; it is also unique nationally as it is the only LLM program that requires training in negotiation and drafting skills.

A full-time student is expected to earn the degree in one academic year (or over two consecutive semesters). All students in the IBT LLM must complete a minimum of twenty-four (24) and maximum of twenty-eight (28) semester credits in the IBT LLM curriculum.

An interdisciplinary approach to the program allows students to enroll in a number of elective courses offered through the renowned Daniels College of Business and the Josef Korbel School of International Studies as well as the Sturm College of Law's nationally ranked Environmental and Natural Resources Law & Policy Program.

In line with Sturm College of Law's Modern Learning Initiative, the IBT LLM program offers its students a variety of opportunities to learn and apply transactional lawyering skills through avenues such as drafting and negotiation courses, international commercial arbitration moot competition and externship options.

A unique mentoring program and optimal externship program allows students to build a professional network through interaction with employers, practitioners, arbitrators, judges and scholars in the field of international business.

A joint JD/IBT LLM degree option also is available.

Please see our website www.law.du.edu/index.php/international-business-transactions or contact Program Manager Marina Logachev at [email protected] with additional questions.

The Faculty

Our courses are taught by highly experienced faculty and practitioners who are committed to providing superior quality legal education with an emphasis on integrative experiential learning, the core of the Sturm College of Law's visionary strategic plan. Through individual attention, support and guidance given to each student, high standards of academic excellence, a rigorous practical learning tactic and a wide variety of available resources, IBT LLM graduates are able to competitively position themselves regionally, nationally and globally.

Please find more information about out excellent faculty and scholars here: www.law.du.edu/index.php/international-business-transactions…
