The University
The University of Akron was founded in 1870 as a small college affiliated with the Universalist Church. In 1967 the university became a state institution. Enrollment is approximately 23,000 students. The school offers more than 200 undergraduate degrees and 100 graduate degrees.
The Law School
McDowell Law Center
Akron Law School received top recognition by The National Jurist magazine as the "Best Value" public law school in the United States of America. The School of Law's strong showing came thanks to a stalwart performance in each of The National Jurist's six areas of consideration - tuition, bar passage rates, unemployment rate, median grants, clinic slots and faculty-student ratio.
The Intellectual Property Law Program at The University of Akron School of Law is managed by the Center for Intellectual Property Law and Technology. Nationally respected, it is one of about 14 such centers in the nation. The center exposes the community to critical thinking in the intellectual property law field, invites distinguished speakers to campus and hosts an annual Richard C. Sughrue Symposium on Intellectual Property Law and Policy. In addition, the center establishes the academic curriculum for students.
The Program
Akron's LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law Program has been fully acquiesced in by the American Bar Association (ABA). Of the 186 ABA approved law schools, this LL.M. in IP program is one of only 17 in the nation. In keeping with Akron's Best Value tradition, the tuition is the lowest among these 17 law schools. Intellectual property law is a complex field needing highly trained practitioners. Akron's law school is uniquely well-positioned to offer an LL.M. program. Over the past decade the focus and resources in this area of law have continually increased. Many of the courses are available in the evenings. Core course work rotates between day and evening to facilitate full- and part-time candidates.
