The University

The CUHK is a comprehensive-research university offering 53 full time honours degrees, 2 part time programmes, and 37 undergraduate level minor options. The provision of postgraduate level education has long been part and parcel of the University's curriculum; there are altogether 12 Postgraduate Diploma programmes, 132 master's level degrees, including both taught and research programmes, and 62 Doctor of Philosophy programmes.
The campus is located at the bay of Tolo Harbour north of Shatin in the New Territories. It occupies a total area of 1.344 square kilometres. All LLM programmes will be delivered in the central business district on the Hong Kong Island at the CUHK Postgraduate Law Centre.
The Law School

The School of Law was established in 2005. It is uniquely positioned to become a centre of research and teaching excellence. With the School of Law’s emphasis on independent research and active, engaged learning, students will develop their intellectual and professional skills and reach their full potential in a caring community of scholars, students, and teachers.
CUHK law students will develop a broad perspective through exposure to different traditions of law in Hong Kong, China, the Asia–Pacific region, and the world. They will be encouraged to look behind the rules of law to the underlying values, purposes, and policies of the law. They and their teachers will uphold and model the values enshrined in the culture of The Chinese University of Hong Kong - collegiality, scholarship, critical thinking, dedication, and public service.
The Program
CUHK LLM Programmes are led by first-rate faculty and are conducted within the stimulating and exciting environment of one of the world’s premier business centres. With a strong focus on individual students and the teaching of law in its practical context, the LLM Programmes provide students with a rare opportunity for professional and academic growth at one of Asia’s leading research and teaching universities.
The LLM in Chinese Business Law Programme aims at equipping students with a broad intellectual outlook on the legal aspects of doing business with China. The essential objectives of the programme are to provide students with a structured course to study the norms, processes and institutions in China in civil and commercial law areas in the context of an evolving political, economic and social environment.
The LLM in Common Law Programme offers local and overseas students the opportunity to gain an understanding of one of the most significant legal systems in the world. The common law system is shared by the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia, amongst other countries. Students may undertake this course either to gain an understanding of the history and development of the common law, its institutions and its personnel, or for those who already have a background in the common law in order to further develop their competence in the common law through selection of specialized and intensive courses of study of common law subjects. A central theme of the programme concerns the principles, theories, and values of the common law as well as its methods and practices.
The LLM in International Economic Law Programme is designed to offer students an intensive course of study of the law and practice of cross-border business transactions. Students will be trained for practice in key areas such as international sales and finance, M&A (mergers and acquisitions), technology transfer and shipping law. Extensive skills training modules will ensure that upon completion of the programme students will be able to conduct both practical work and independent research in the relevant subject areas.
