The University

The CUHK is a comprehensive-research university offering 60 full time honours degrees, 1 part time programme, and 63 undergraduate level minor options. The provision of postgraduate level education has long been part and parcel of the University's curriculum; there are altogether 27 Postgraduate Diploma programs, 160 master's level degrees, including both taught and research programs, and 71 Doctor of Philosophy programs.

Whilst the main campus is located at the bay of Tolo Harbour north of Shatin in the New Territories occupying a total area of 137.3 hectares, all LLM programs are delivered in the central business district on Hong Kong Island at the CUHK Graduate Law Centre.

The Law Faculty

The Faculty of Law was established in 2005. It has already become a centre of research and teaching excellence. With the Faculty of Law’s emphasis on independent research and active, engaged learning, you will develop your intellectual and professional skills and reach your full potential in a caring community of scholars, students, and teachers.

As a CUHK law student, you will develop a broad perspective through exposure to different traditions of law in Hong Kong, China, the Asia–Pacific region, and the world. You will be encouraged to look behind the rules of law to the underlying values, purposes, and policies of the law. You and your teachers will uphold and model the values enshrined in the culture of The Chinese University of Hong Kong - collegiality, scholarship, critical thinking, dedication, and public service.

The Program

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) offers three LLM programmes. Each one is taught in English by first-rate academics with specialist knowledge and global experience. All teaching takes place in our Graduate Law Centre, dedicated and state-of-the-art premises in the heart of Hong Kong’s legal and business district in Central. Our LLM programmes offer an excellent opportunity for academic and professional growth, delivered by one of the world’s top universities, in one of Asia’s most exciting cities.

The LLM in Chinese Business Law provides students with a structured course to study the principles, processes, institutions and methods of civil and commercial law in China in the context of an evolving political, economic and social environment. It is designed to enable students to develop a broad intellectual outlook on the legal aspects of doing business with China.

The common law is an organic and exciting legal system which unites millions of people across the world. This course will furnish students with substantive knowledge of Hong Kong law in some core common law subjects, and further develop the skills necessary to engage with the common law tradition more widely. Through the electives, students are given an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the common law, or complement it with the study of new subjects.

The LLM in International Economic Law is designed to offer students an intensive course of study of the law and practice of cross-border business transactions. Students are trained for practice in key areas such as international sales and finance, M&A (mergers and acquisitions), WTO law and international banking law. Skills training modules ensure that graduates of the LLM in International Economic Law are able to conduct both practical work and independent research in relevant subject areas.
