The University of Vienna (Universität Wien) in Vienna, Austria is the oldest university in the current German-speaking world. It formally opened in 1365.
Today, the University of Vienna is the largest university in Vienna. 63,000 students from 130 countries are currently enrolled at the University, which offers more than 135 Bachelor, Master, Diploma and Doctoral programs in the fields of study covered by its Faculties.
Research and education at the University of Vienna encompasses a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines, ranging from theology, jurisprudence, economics, computer science, to the humanities and to the social and natural sciences.
The Program

Schoenbrunn Palace
The LL.M. in International Legal Studies at the University of Vienna Law School aims at deepening the knowledge of fundamental structures and specific issues in international law. Students will acquire knowledge and skills that are of importance in the practice of international law, in international organizations, governmental agencies, as well as internationally operating law firms and enterprises.
The program comprises four modules focusing on different areas of international law. The following modules will be taught: “Fundamental Issues of International Law”, “International Economic Law”, “International Organizations” und “International Dispute Settlement”. Classes will be held as courses and seminars. All classes will be taught in English.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants holding a Bachelor of Law, JD, LL.B., or LL.M. from a foreign or Austrian law school are eligible to apply. They are higher-than-average qualified candidates who have already gained a relevant amount of experience in the academic legal field, legal practice or legal advice in either public or private institutions, or also in international organizations or NGOs.
The Faculty
Learn from an outstanding faculty which includes first class scholars and practitioners of international law, among them arbitrators and experts in international (investment) dispute settlement, expert advisors of foreign ministries and international organizations, former members of the UN’s International Law Commission and legal experts for various UN bodies.

UN Complex in Vienna
Being the seat of a number of international organizations, the city of Vienna offers an ideal environment for this kind of program. United Nations offices and international institutions in Vienna include the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
Furthermore, the 1980 Diplomatic Conference was held in Vienna that led to the adoption of the United Nations Convention of Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Additionally, Vienna is the seat of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law's secretariat (UNCITRAL).
