Program Features

Learning and Teaching Methods

The programme is delivered through the University of Derby's virtual learning environment which provides you with flexible access to learning resources and a variety of tools for team-based, group-based and individual learning. A dedicated online tutor will provide support for all your study needs as well as engaging in formal academic sessions, supervising research and practical assignments and supporting the assessment process.

As students located all over the world will study the programme, sessions are scheduled around different time zones. All sessions will then be archived so that they can easily be revisited or accessed by those unable to attend.

The approach to teaching and learning follows the School of Law and Criminology's highly successful learning model. The topic areas will be covered in virtual lectures and you will also be directed to read and research supplementary materials before undertaking activities which include:

  • self-test and formative assessments
  • discussion groups/seminars
  • directed independent study questions
  • simulations of professional activities, such as negotiation and courtroom activities

You will benefit from the following:

Easy to use and effective technology - Accessible online resources and teaching at a time to suit you.

Practical interactions, based on real-world problems and tools - The development of dispute resolution and contracting skills is achieved through the same transnational interactive tools that are used in practice.

Work-based learning opportunities - Applied study offers you the opportunity to reflect on action and interaction in relevant professional contexts, as well as developing professional skills.

Research that counts - Research is at the heart of any Master's degree. It is a significant element of the study activities and the final Independent Studies module or sequence of applied projects provides the opportunity for you to develop deep and specialist knowledge.
