Harvard Waitlist

Hello,

This thread is for applicants that were waitlisted at HLS for 2014-2015.

How many of you will wait? How many will not? Do you know anything about chances? Cases of someone being waitlisted and then admitted?

Regards,
H.

Hi -

I sent an email to Catherine Peshkin a few days ago. She told me that they don't disclose the number of applicants on the waiting list, and that there is not a ranking of those who've been waiting-listed. So it's quite impossible to estimate chances to be admitted. She also told me that last year they admitted a few people from the waiting list in August, and the previous year they took no one.

I don't know if I will wait yet, probably just until deadlines to accept offers from other law schools =)

Hi,

Thanks for the perspective. It is good to know that there have been cases where the waitlisted are eventually accepted. Nonetheless, it is also discouraging to have to wait until August.

I will write you a PM.

Three years ago a friend of mine was on the Harvard waitlist. They responded him in May and offered admission, which he accepted. All he lost was a deposit at NYU he paid earlier.

No I am not. I was lucky to be admitted both to Harvard and Georgetown.

I can only imagine how difficult it might be to stay on a wait list.

Good luck!

I realized that my first answer about what Catherine Peshkin reply to me was wrongly written. She told me that the last year they admitted a few applicants from the waiting list "even as late as august", not "in august".

So it's very likely that also last year someone on the waiting list has been admitted earlier.

Thought I should specify =)

Hi!

Can someone please clarify whether 2 LORs for HLS should be okay (that's the minimum) - or will it be disadvantageous, given that HLS recognises, and is infact correct, that almost all applicants submit 3!

Anyone particularly with personal experience on this one?

Thanks.

No. It clearly states "at least two". Though there are no limits to how many LORs you can send. Two is believed to be the bare minimum limit. Frankly, sending three LORs will definitely not get you any closer to being accepted. You are over-analysing the process. Nevertheless, sending over the prescribed amount, being a minimum of two, creates ambiguity.

Kind Regards.
