Cambridge LLM v. Oxford BCL

Phoenix1

Hello to everyone awaiting/receiving application results,

Just received disappointing news and I'm wondering. Oxford BCL is generally considered the most competitive in the world and I know of several people who got through to Cambridge LLM, but not the former.

Is there anyone here, or anyone that you know of, who got into Oxford for the BCL but not into Cambridge?

Generally, the BCL is as you say more competitive, so in most cases, a successful BCL applicant would also have been successful in Cambridge. Then again, I'm sure there must have been instances where the converse happened. It's relatively common that someone who got into the Oxford Dphil did not get into the Cambridge PhD and vice versa, as a result of very different application processes. Since the application documents are also somewhat different in Cambridge and Oxford, I'm sure that this can also happen the other way around. Less frequently though.

Yes. Me. I received an offer for the BCL this year but was rejected from Cambridge LLM. I’m fairly sure that had more to do with my personal statement, however. For Cambridge I wrote it and submitted my application in about 40 minutes, whereas for Oxford I took my time.
