I'd say Tulane (US) is known as "the place" to study Maritime Law. In Europe, I'd probably take a look at Southampton's LLM programme.

The IMO's International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) is often overlooked, but is a formidable challenger in the academic field of international maritime law. IMLI's academic programme is impressive (see: www.imli.org), as are its visiting fellows, hailing from Oxford, MLAUS, BIMCO, the IMO, etc. Best of all, IMLI's alumni network consists of graduates from 115 countries worldwide. IMLI is based in Malta, in the center of Mediterranean--where better to study maritime law?

Hello Sarah !
Would you be so kind as to enlighten us as regards the job prospect after completing IMLI LLM programme ?
I am really curious ! The programme clearly looks suited for anyone willing to specialize in Maritime law (especially as it's "sponsored / endorsed" by the United Nations).

Hi, Skiia,
The majority of IMLI LLM students return to work for their respective government maritime agencies. For students not already in government employment, the job search requires some initiative. The IMLI degree is a serious credential and very well respected.

The majority of IMLI students--like most LLM students I imagine--already have law careers. Thus there is less emphasis on career counseling. For an indication of job prospects, you may wish to review the graduate listings in IMLI's "Global Directory" page to see where IMLI graduates have ended up.
